Rollin ‘Rolly’ Thomas Trumbull

Posted

(Nov. 8, 1936 - Dec. 12, 2012)

A great cowboy, father, grandfather, brother and friend was lost when Rollin “Rolly” Thomas Trumbull died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 at his home in Ralston. He was 76.

He was an “ol time cowboy” who could tame the toughest bronc, shoe the worst horse, pound a nail in the hardest wood and yet still tip his hat to every lady. He had the heart of a kind and gentle soul.

Rollin was born to Adrian and Marguerite Barbee Trumbull on Nov. 8, 1936 at their family home in Emblem. He attended grades first through fourth at Emblem and graduated from Greybull High School where he excelled in wrestling and rodeo.

He was married in Greybull in February 1959 and to that union was born three sons: Jeff of Proctor, Colo., Rex of Torrington and Craig of Lovell.

While living in Lovell, Rollin worked as a ranger at the Porcupine Ranger Station and a cowboy in the Pryor Mountain (Dry Head area), after which he moved to Powell/Ralston to work as a carpenter and a cowboy. Later he made his living with his passion of breaking and shoeing horses. He will be forever remembered by many young cowboys and cowgirls — he was proud to be part of their lives.

He was honored when Rex married Kathy Lookingbill of Lander who blessed him with three grandchildren, Britt, Dane and Breanne Trumbull and just recently a great-granddaughter, Jayda. Each grandchild has a part of Rolly in them.

He leaves behind his three sons and their families; plus sister Kathleen (Walter) Howe of Basin; and brothers Sidney (Claudia) Trumbull of Basin and William J. ( Nancy) Trumbull of Sheridan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister Mary Adrianna.

Services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Powell with a reception immediately following at the Mountain View (Heart Mountain) Community Center.

Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund, 101 Pro Rodeo Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80919.

Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and condolences may be sent to the family at www.thompsonfuneral.net or P.O. Box 807, Powell, WY 82435.
