Michael J. Franckowiak of Cody died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at home after a brave battle with cancer. He was 75.

He was born in Litchfield, Neb., on Sept. 29, 1937, the first of nine children to Felix and Lucille (Bogus) Franckowiak. Mike honorably served in the Navy and upon arrival back home, he married Della G. Moore. Together they raised their daughter and two sons in Meeteetse, where Mike worked as a rancher and farmer. He was known for his extraordinary irrigation knowledge all around Meeteetse, Shell and Greybull. He was a great tease and loved to go elk hunting with family and friends. Mike accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior.

Mike is survived by his wife Wilma; daughter Brenda (Terry) Mari; two sons: Steve Franckowiak and Dewayne Appland; sisters Virginia Martinez, Frances (Bob) Wolfe, Mary Zimdars; brothers Thomas, John, Peter, and Steve Franckowiak; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Della, his parents, grandparents, sister Patricia Wilk and brother-in-law Manuel Martinez.

Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at The Church of St. Anthony in Cody. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29 at The Church of St. Anthony with burial to follow in the Meeteetse Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 2673 Military Honor Guard.
