Lawrence Wilson Lundvall, formerly of Powell, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012 at his home in Brittany Estates, Leesburg, Fla. at the age of 95.

He was born to O.H. Lundvall and Verna Salmon Lundvall in New Raymer, Colo. on Oct. 18, 1916. Because of a severe drought in that area, the family of two sons and his parents moved to Ft. Collins, Colo. where his father had a dray business and his mother was a house-mother at Colorado State University. In 1920, they moved by covered wagon to Cody. His father had traded his New Raymer farm for a ranch near Cody, sight unseen. Lawrence attended a country school and then graduated from Cody High School in 1935, having been a star on the football team.

Lawrence married Phyllis Ballinger on May 22, 1941, and they were married for 71 years. They were farmers and ranchers in Powell for 17 years and then acquired the A&W Root Beer Drive-in in Worland which they operated for nine years.

Both Lawrence and Phyllis enjoyed sports and saw a lot of the United States as they traveled from game to game watching the Wyoming Cowboys. It was on Jan. 1, 1951 that they traveled to the Gator Bowl to watch Wyoming play Washington and Lee. From December of 1979, they spent their winters at Brittany Estates and were snow birds until 2001 when they moved to Florida.

The Lundvalls spent many summers in Wyoming enjoying watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. Lawrence especially enjoyed riding his bike and playing pool with his friends.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Bonnie Earhart and husband Neil; son Larry Lundvall and his wife Kerry; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Lundvall.

Cremation has taken place and the remains will be placed in Cody. A memorial service was held Aug. 25 at the clubhouse at Brittany Estates. Memorials may be sent to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778-9983 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
