Jack J. McGlothlin

(Sept. 16,1923 - Aug. 10, 2012)

Jack J. McGlothlin died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012. He was 88.

Jack was born Sept. 16, 1923 in Roundup, Mont. to O.S. McGlothlin and Glenna Covert McGlothlin. He was the sixth of seven children. When Jack was 1 year old, the family moved to Kalispell, Mont., where he attended grade school. The family then moved to Cut Bank, Mont., where he graduated from high school at the age of 17.

He attended Montana State University for a year before enlisting in the Army Air Force. During World War II he was stationed in England as a glider mechanic. At the end of the war he was stationed in France as a clerk. While in France, he and his fellow crew flew a plane under the Eiffel Tower with about an inch to spare. After returning to the United States, he spent one more year at the University of Montana in Missoula where he met the love of his life, Coleene Lindstrom. They married in January 1948. That spring they moved to the Cody area, living at the Heart Mountain Relocation Camp while he worked construction.

Jack spent the remainder of his life in Cody, primarily working in construction. He was the Veteran Administration housing inspector for many years.

Jack loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing the area with his father, children and grandchildren. He loved music and dancing.

He was a member of the VFW and the Eagles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers, and several nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife Coleene, his sister Wanda, his children Louise (Gary) Kelly, Joe (Becky) McGlothlin, Betty (Dave) Hellyer, all of Cody, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials and donations will be directed to a Cody charity of the family’s choice.
