Pete Rose wasn’t inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame Sunday. Again.

It appears a plaque bearing his name and describing his magnificent achievements on the diamond never will be placed in the hallowed halls of Cooperstown, N.Y.

Finding a way to reduce government costs always sounds good, and is an easy concept to endorse.

But all proposals are not equal, and not every idea makes sense. Closing the Powell Circuit Court is a glaring example of that.

After decades of play, Steve and Ron Rickert still competing at high level

Call them evergreens.

Ron and Steve Rickert have been playing golf for a combined total of more than 110 years, but both still love to play, and they do so at a very high level.

A call to ban smoking in enclosed public places in Powell sparked a discussion during Monday night’s Powell City Council meeting.

Sharon Altermatt, team leader of Prevention Management of Park County, brought the issue before the council. Altermatt said it is a health issue, not a business matter, and the council needs to treat it that way.

Should smoking be banned in Powell businesses?

For us, right now it’s Nic Patrick. Frankly, he is one amazing man, and we can all benefit from paying attention to how he has dealt with a crisis.

Raise pay for Powell City Council

As an editorial writer, it’s an easy task to bemoan increased pay for public officials.

At a time when many Americans have seen their compensation stagnate or even decline, the idea of elected officials seeking pay raises doesn’t sit well with a lot of people. Calling them out for asking for more money is a simple task.
