The Powell High School volleyball team will begin its quest for a 3A state championship tonight (Thursday) in Casper.

The Panthers (5-1, 16-9) are seeded second in the 3A West division and will face Rawlins (3-7, 15-18), the third-seeded team in the 3A East division.


Last week someone brought up the subject of birthdays. I don’t remember why, but I only assume it was a calculated scheme to make me curl up inside my head to ponder my age and worth.


The Powell Panthers volleyball team avenged one painful loss, but was unable to double-down as it qualified for the state tournament and claimed next-best at the 3A West regionals in Lyman.

Community voices opinions on iPads, report cards

Park County School District No. 1 underwent an organizational assessment last week that aimed to measure the strengths and weaknesses of Powell’s school system.

The assessment, done by Krenek Consulting (which also provided this same service in 2009), included visits to the schools, a forum of Powell community members and a report to the district on its findings.

The Powell Panthers volleyball team travels to Lyman this Friday to compete in the 3A West regionals.

“This is what you prepare for,” PHS head coach Cindi Smith said. “You work all season to get to this point.”

The Powell High School girls swim team finished in third place at this weekend’s 3A West Conference Championships in Lander.

The two day meet featured seven schools competing in 12 events. Preliminaries were held on Friday, with the top 12 finishers in each event advancing to compete on Saturday.

The Tribune’s poll question last week asked, “Are you ready for colder temperatures?”

Even though I work at the Tribune, I’m not quite sure what that question is really asking.

Panthers let leads slip away during frustrating weekend

What could have been? This is what many players of the Powell High School volleyball team asked themselves following their final match at the 3A conference duals in Cody this weekend.

Despite ending on a positive note — a 3-0 defeat of Mountain View — the Panthers felt their results didn’t match their potential.

Panther volleyball Team gets season sweep of Fillies

The Powell High School volleyball team finished regular season division play on a strong but uncertain note.

The Panthers beat Cody at home in four sets, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19.

The Powell High School volleyball team’s 3-1 victory over 2A Shoshoni Monday night was not as easy as the stat sheet might indicate.

The Lady Blue (3-0, 14-2) stunned Powell out of the gate by taking the first set 25-16. The Panthers looked sloppy as Shoshoni cruised to an opening set victory.
