Erickson, Klassen qualify at Montana’s state finals

Two Powell High School students qualified for the National High School Finals Rodeo over the weekend in Kalispell, Mont.

Graduating PHS senior Skyler Erickson and junior Jalisa Klassen each advanced to nationals by placing in the top four of their event(s) at the Montana High School Rodeo Association State Finals in Kalispell’s Majestic Valley Arena.

Through the first seven games of the Powell Recreation softball season Cody Seamless Siding sits atop the standings with a 6-1 record.

My Auto and Woodward Tractor Beavers both sit at 5-1 and Prime Power is the last team with a winning record at 4-2.

LARAMIE — With 10 All-America honors already under his belt, this weekend’s NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships may seem like old hat to the University of Wyoming’s Mason Finley. But Friday will be the Cowboy senior’s last chance to capture a title to which he has come tantalizingly close during his collegiate career.

Two Powell Panther boys were named finalists for the Milward Simpson Award.

Hayden Cragoe and Garrett Lynch are among the five Wyoming graduating seniors who are eligible to win the annual honor, given to the most outstanding male and female athlete in Wyoming prep sports.

The award will be announced June 21.

For the second time in a week the Powell Pioneers were involved in a no-hitter, though Saturday found the home team on the wrong end of a punchless offensive performance.

Cole Torgensen of the Billings Halos threw seven innings of no-hit ball, including 12 strikeouts and no walks in a 3-0 game 1 win, and the Pioneers had only three hits (two singles and a double) in a 6-2 loss in game 2.

More than 90 athletes competed in Powell’s Dano‘lope’ Dash May 31 and a small contingent of Powellites traveled across the Big Horns for the 31st annual Buffalo Triathlon Saturday.

Cory Heny was perfect and the lineup was better than good as the Powell Pioneers swept the Lovell Mustangs in a conference doubleheader Tuesday evening in Powell.

Heny struck out 11 of the 15 batters he faced and needed only 62 pitches (49 for strikes) to get through the Mustang lineup one and two-thirds times. Then the Powell offense ended Game 1 early by going up big in a 12-0 win.

SARATOGA — Two UW shuttle vehicles crammed with nearly 60 University of Wyoming football student-athletes, along with several other university employees and student workers in university and personal vehicles, headed west across Wyoming Highway 130 on a mission early Friday morning.

Conference schedule begins today vs. Lovell

The Powell Pioneers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to notch a come-from-behind 10-9 win, their first of the season, against the Billings Halos Saturday afternoon in Powell.

And they did it without an RBI hit.

Panthers win 8 titles, Lynch breaks 3A shot put record
