Boys second, girls third overall
The Powell Panthers placed second on the boys’ side and third on the girls’ side at the Lovell Invitational on Saturday. The Panthers competed in the meet absent a number of their members, who were in action at Sheridan.

Girls’, boys’ teams squander one-goal leads
Both Powell Panther soccer teams had their opportunities to emerge victorious against cross-country rival Cody on Thursday. Both teams carried one-goal leads into the halftime intermission, only to watch as visiting Cody scored a pair of second half goals in each game to emerge with a pair of 2-1 victories.
The losses were difficult to swallow for both Panther teams.

Panther track members have final shot at Track Classic
Members of the Powell High School track team have their final opportunity to qualify for the 2013 Wyoming Track Classic this Saturday when they compete in Lovell and Sheridan. The event, which invites the state’s top 10 performers in most non-relay events, will freeze its performance lists at noon on Sunday to start the task of issuing invitations.

Jackson, Star Valley edge Powell
Paired against the state’s co-No. 2 ranked teams, the Powell Panthers turned in gritty performances on the way to a pair of narrow defeats. Powell fell 2-1 in regulation to Jackson on Friday, then took Star Valley to overtime before once again slipping by a 2-1 final goal count.
Middle school track competes in Powell
Two Cub teams capture titles
The seventh grade girls and eighth grade boys at Powell Middle School captured team titles at the Powell Athletic Roundtable middle school track invitational last Saturday. The seventh grade girls ran away from the competition, finishing as the only school with more than 100 points. The eighth grade boys edged Worland by three points for their team title.

NWC sophomore earns honorable mention All-American title
Northwest College sophomore men’s basketball player Jeffery Solarin capped a brilliant two-year hardwood career for the Trappers by being named an NJCAA All American honorable mention on Monday. Solarin was one of three Region IX players honored on the final national award list for the 2012-2013 season.

NWC team faces tough climb back
The Northwest College Trappers had a sluggish spring return to the rodeo arena over the weekend at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont. The men’s team placed fourth in the first rodeo of the week before finishing fifth in the one-day Sunday rodeo.
