It looked like a steel-sided building in Clark had burst at the seams Tuesday night, with siding and styrofoam insulation strewn around the shed like fallout from a big, ill-tempered dust devil.

Willwood Irrigation District is filling the pool behind the Willwood Dam.

Government officials, citizens ponder possible solutions

Close to 100 people attended a Tuesday meeting to discuss the tons of silt that have and may still flow into the Shoshone River below the Willwood Dam. But while many attendees called for action, no ultimate solution was found at the meeting.

Transportation officials are proposing to drop the speed limit through the Wapiti Valley, with a goal of fewer dead ungulates and fewer broken bodies and vehicles on U.S. Highway 14/16/20 west of Cody.

The Willwood Irrigation District may be in a little hot water due to a silt spill that killed some fish, but experts now are looking for ways to address the issue for the long term.

Out of the canal and into the Shoshone River they go as Trout Unlimited bails out boatloads of trout from Garland Canal and other irrigation waterways.
