weekend bust of an apparent small-scale methamphetamine lab in Powell has resulted in three felony charges against a Powell man, and prosecutors say they’ll likely bring additional charges against his wife.

The Lady Panthers’ 13-point lead had long disappeared and — with Lovell High School suddenly up by five points in the fourth quarter of the Class 3A title game — you could feel unease set in among the Powell High School faithful at the Casper Events Center.

The Powell High School boys lost in Thursday’s first round of the Class 3A state basketball tournament, and on Friday afternoon in the consolation bracket, they found themselves down 22 points at the half.

Police say a Saturday search turned up evidence that a 47-year-old Powell man was manufacturing methamphetamine inside his Cheyenne Street home.

The Lady Panthers have earned the chance to play for the Class 3A state basketball title. The Powell High School girls beat Mountain View 31-15 on Friday in Casper to advance to Saturday's final against Lovell's Lady Bulldogs.

The Panther boys, meanwhile, were eliminated from the tournament with a 75-66 Friday loss to Star Valley.

While Powell Lady Panther fans likely have a clear favorite for the Class 3A state tournament, it’s a bit tougher for more objective observers.

Park County Commissioners are expanding and changing the job description of the fair director, but they don’t want to change the position’s pay.

It wasn’t the regional title that the Powell High School girls basketball team had hoped for, but it was close.

Connie O’Connor stood before the judge last April and was posed a relatively straightforward question about the nearly $365,000 she’d taken from friends and family.

It was a stellar regular season for the Lady Panther basketball team, but “we start brand new now,” said head coach Scott McKenzie. “We have to come ready to go this weekend.”
