Lovell man alleged to have stolen two vehicles, fired multiple shots  

Powell police suspect a Lovell man committed a spree of crimes that included stealing two vehicles, firing shots into three others and leading officers on a high-speed chase early Sunday morning.

Israel Silva, 25, remained jailed and was awaiting formal charges Monday.

The Powell High School golf teams will tee it up Thursday and Friday for the fall’s first tournament, but family commitments, a medical procedure and a need for a little more preparation will have both the boys and girls shorthanded: Only four players will be able to make the trip to Riverton.

Park County Republican voters decided to stick with the county’s current commissioners, choosing to support incumbents Loren Grosskopf, Joe Tilden and Tim French.

Grosskopf was the top vote-getter, collecting 3,559 ballots (or 19.7 percent of the voter), followed by Tilden’s 3,532 (19.5 percent) and French’s 3,375 votes (18.7 percent).

Sheriff headed toward third full term thanks to strong Cody showing  

Overwhelming support from the Cody area carried Park County Sheriff Scott Steward to a primary election victory on Tuesday, overcoming strong support for challenger Bruce Olson in Powell, Meeteetse and Clark.

Local political candidates are committing not just time and energy to their campaigns, but also money.

In the six county and state races being contested in today’s (Tuesday’s) primary election, the average candidate either raised or personally committed nearly $5,500 through the first part of the month. That’s according to campaign finance reports filed last week. All of the contenders are Republicans.

Steward cites his experience; Dunn and Olson Fault his leadership

Steward faces former Powell-area deputy Roger Dunn and current Powell-based Deputy Bruce Olson in next week’s Republican primary election.

Stefani Ruland, 40, was caught and arrested by Cody police in January as a result of cooperation between several agencies, including the Johnson and Sheridan county sheriff’s offices and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
