Searchers recover body of lost boy

Boy fell into South Fork of Shoshone River on July 2

A month-long search for a 9-year-old Utah boy who fell into the South Fork of the Shoshone River has ended with the successful recovery of his body.

The body of Tyler Hatch of Eagle Mountain, Utah, was found by volunteer kayakers searching the river Sunday afternoon, said Park County Sheriff Scott Steward.

County finalizes $24 million budget

The Park County Commission found some money to sock away in its $24.16 million budget for the coming fiscal year, but it remains to be seen whether looming costs will mess that plan up.

“(Budgets) are not easy,” said Commission Chairman Tim French at the outset of a July 17 public hearing on the document. “They’re always tough when deciding how to spend $24 million.”

Visiting the area where an Illinois man was killed by a grizzly bear is too risky for a court visit, a federal judge presiding in a suit over the man’s death decided last week.

One alleged victim charged with drug activity

A young Cody man is being held on a $500,000 bond in connection with allegations that he tried to kill two men during a dispute over drugs last week.

A Cody man is in jail after allegedly leading police on a chase and firing a shot at officers on Saturday night.

Derek E. Hill, 25, was arrested Sunday and will make his first court appearance Tuesday on what police say should be multiple felony counts.

Cody police have arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with a Wednesday shooting.

Taylor Alan Hall, of Cody, was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of two counts of attempted second-degree murder, said a news release from Cody Police Chief Perry Rockvam.

 

Yellowstone National Park officials say nobody really liked their last proposal for managing winter travel in the park. Their new plan, however, is finding some encouraged — though still wary — local fans.

At a meeting in Cody last week, speakers generally indicated support for the draft plan. Among other things, it would keep Yellowstone’s East Entrance open in the winter, allow a small increase in snowmobile visitation from recent years and let a limited number of folks snowmobile into the park without a paid guide.

There was plenty of agreement between contenders for the Park County Commission during a Monday night candidate forum in Clark.

Four Republican commission candidates — Dan Laursen, Lee Livingston, Alex Gisoldi and Greg Gaspers — took questions from a roughly 20-person audience at the Clark Pioneer Recreation Center, and they voiced few disagreements between themselves and not many with current commissioners.
