Park County residents are in line for a more than $2.7 million break on their garbage bills.

On Thursday, the State Loan and Investment Board gave preliminary approval to Park County commissioners’ request for a $5.45 million half-loan/half-grant funding package to help close portions of the Powell, Clark and Meeteetse landfills.

Searchers in Park County are continuing to look for a 32-year-old Billings man who hasn't returned from a Saturday hike in the Clarks Fork Canyon area.

Jason Shefelbine was last seen Saturday, Oct. 1st, around 2 p.m. northwest of Antelope Mountain between the Chief Joseph Highway (Wyo. 296) and the Clarks Fork River. He was wearing shorts, a t-shirt, a black day pack and was carrying a fishing pole.

Anyone with information about Shefelbine is encouraged to contact the Park County Sheriff’s Office at 307-527-8700.

Recent limits to stay in place for coming season

Yellowstone National Park officials say the public had valid criticisms of its proposed plan for winter use in the park, and they’re taking more time to address those flaws in the plan.

“The public comment period did exactly what we hope a public comment period would do in a process like this,” Yellowstone Superintendent Dan Wenk said in a conference call with reporters last week.

For the first time in years, the Powell High School boys tennis team broke through for a fourth-place finish and a trophy at the state tournament in Gillette.

“We had an awesome state meet, especially on the boys side,” said PHS coach Ray Bieber, adding that many of the girls improved on their play from regionals.

After 30 years of service to the city of Powell, Police Chief Tim Feathers is calling it a career.

Feathers formally submitted his retirement notice to the city on Thursday. It will be effective Dec. 31.
