The commissioners on Tuesday chose to move forward with a rough plan for a 13,000-square-foot, $2.6 million facility. The new exhibit space would replace an aging complex of exhibit halls at the fairgrounds — one of which that has already been demolished due to structural problems.

Janos and Hildegard Volgyesi and their young daughter Ildiko came to the United States from Germany decades ago for the same reason as many immigrants.

Teen killers accept deal to conclude murder case

It was the night of March 2 when Thomas Volgyesi got the phone call that would overturn his life: his sister Ildiko Freitas, mother Hildegard Volgyesi and father Janos Volgyesi had been shot dead in Clark.

“How does one even begin to process the news that your loved ones are gone due to murder?” Thomas Volgyesi, of California, asked in Park County’s District Courtroom on Tuesday.

“How could I even begin to take the loss of a love one and multiply that by three?" he said. My whole family — the only family I’ve ever known — just gone.”

Firefighter injured, homes evacuated, threatened as smoke makes way into Powell Valley

Disruptive wildfires continued to burn across Wyoming and southern Montana Wednesday.

Fires forced the evacuation of several homes and a resort near Red Lodge, Mont., on Tuesday and the temporary closure of one of Yellowstone National Park’s major roads.

The two wildfires are among roughly a dozen burning in the region and among many in the West that have brought smoke to Powell. The Rock Creek Fire started Tuesday afternoon several miles south of Red Lodge and quickly burned through 500 acres. One unidentified firefighter suffered non-life-threatening during the initial attack on the blaze. Three homes were evacuated and additional homeowners in the area were warned to be ready to leave.

An armed couple sought by U.S. Marshals led a Wyoming Highway patrolman on a high-speed chase last month that ended only after their car got stuck and an attempt to hide in a creek failed.

Police say Nicole Rae Presfield, 32, and Raymond Lee Norcutt Sr., 57, gave fake names and fled after being pulled over for speeding on July 17 on Wyoming Highway 120 between Thermopolis and Meeteetse.

Powell High School has some big golf shoes to fill after losing three All-State players to graduation.

The golf teams — which start their competitive season today (Thursday) — are coming off a 2012 campaign in which the girls took second in Class 3A (also winning the Class 3A West Conference Tournament) while the boys finished third at state and runner-up at conference.

“We lost five seniors total ... so with those spots to fill, people may not have the same expectations of us here at the beginning of the year,” said PHS head coach Troy Hildebrand. “But I look for us to just try to get better each week throughout the season and hopefully — if we can be playing our best at the end, having conference at home — maybe we can have some of that same success that we had last year.”
