It’s hard to believe anyone in real life could be as heartless and money-grabbing as Mr. Potter, the fictional character in the classic movie “It’s A Wonderful Life.” He was the man without compassion or conscience, the person whose inhumanity toward others made him the perfect villain.

Remodeling or replacing the DeWitt Student Center and the Nelson Performing Arts Center are two of the highest priorities identified in Northwest College’s facilities master plan, updated last year.

They also were listed high on previous master plans.

Mark Wurzel, a doctor at Powell Valley Healthcare, was appointed Monday to serve as a new trustee on the Northwest College Board of Trustees. 

Following an executive session, the NWC board appointed Wurzel to fill the vacant board seat formerly held by Jim Vogt, who died last month.

A common complaint in a small town is that there is little to do. 

But in and around Powell, that usually is not a problem. In fact, at times it seems there’s almost too much to do. During those times, people have to pick and choose from several activities and events because it’s difficult or impossible to attend or do everything. 

new Intercultural House across from the Northwest College campus was hailed last week as “a place of inclusiveness” and a place “to create welcoming, supporting and engaging programs that promote diversity, cultural awareness and student success.”

The “Cadillac tax” — a federal tax that will be imposed on employers who provide “exceptional” health insurance — raised the ire and concern of a legislative committee that met in Lovell last week.

Thumbs up to Northwest College being ranked No. 4 nationwide. crunched data in four categories and 17 subcategories for 670 colleges, and NWC came out among the best. 

An investigation has determined two juveniles playing with fire caused Saturday’s Red Lakes Fire on the South Fork side of Cedar Mountain, Park County Fire Marshal Russ Wenke said Tuesday.

Northwest College is ranked No. 4 among the nation’s community colleges, according to a report from, an online data service.

The report also ranks Wyoming third among the states for its community college system.
