Louise Hillman Skauge

Louise Hillman Skauge died at Powell Valley Care Care on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012. She was 94.
Louise was born in a cabin southwest of Musselshell, Mont., on Nov. 11, 1918 to John and Annie Gonion. She married Edward Hillman on March 18, 1941. They were happily married for 43 years. Ed died Feb. 18, 1984.
Holiday season kicks off this week
With snow on the ground, decorations hung downtown and holiday events on the calendar, it is starting to look like Christmas around Powell.
Myra Leon Johnson Morris

Myra Leon Johnson Morris died peacefully at the Powell Valley Care Center in Powell on the evening of Nov. 8, 2012. She was 91.
Myra was born on Dec. 6, 1920 in Burlington to Levi and Olive Dustin Johnson. She was the fifth of 11 children.
James Vernon Schuler

James Vernon Schuler of Chicago Heights, Ill., died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at his son’s home in Powell after a short-lived battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 68.
Jim was born on July 9, 1944 in Chicago, Ill., to Herman and Mary Schuler. He was the youngest of three children.
Joe M. Stefanowich

Longtime Worland resident Joseph M. Stefanowich died peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012 at the Powell Valley Care Center. He was 96.
Joe was born Sept. 13, 1916 in Wibaux, Mont., to Jerry and Clementine (Majkowski) Stefanowich. He grew up on the family ranch in Wibaux and at the age of 16 he started riding broncs for 5 cents a ride. An injury with a bull ended “Smokey Joe’s” career at the age of 22. While in the hospital recovering, he met the love of his life, Ruth Berg. Joe and Ruth were married in Wibaux on May 23, 1942.
One-cent sales tax fails in Park County
Supported in just five of 29 county precincts
Voters in Park County do not want to pay an extra penny for infrastructure.
That was the majority’s sentiment in Tuesday’s general election, where 60.8 percent of voters opposed a proposed 1-cent tax for roads, bridges, sewers and other infrastructure. Countywide, 39.1 percent supported the measure, according to unofficial results.
Celeste Silvey Beacock Shepard

Celeste Silvey Beacock Shepard, 96, died on Nov. 2, 2012 at West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody.
She was born Nov. 16, 1915 on a Powell homestead to Charles and Mary Beacock. Celeste was the oldest of three children. The Beacocks were early homesteaders in 1911 in the Powell community.

Kyle K. Wells, 16, of Cody, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012 at his home in Cody.
Florence Mary Utter Roberson
(March 8, 1932 - Sept. 29, 2012)
Florence Mary Utter Roberson died quietly in her sleep on Sept. 29, 2012 in Rapid City, S.D., following a lovely reunion with her Billings/Powell family en route back across the country to sunny Florida. She was 80.
