Shawn Jay Bennet, 42, died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at his home in Powell.

Martial artists from Wyoming and nearby states will meet in Powell on Saturday for the Lone Wolf Taekwondo Championships.

Powell’s Lone Wolf Taekwondo hosts the 21st annual event beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Panther Gym.

Ernest J. Goppert, Jr.

Longtime Cody attorney, community leader and Buffalo Bill Center of the West trustee Ernest J. “Ernie” Goppert, Jr. died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Spirit Mountain Hospice in Cody. He was 87.

Morris Jay McCarty

(June 29, 1920 - March 23, 2014)

Morris Jay McCarty died March 23, 2014, at Sandrock Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Colorado. He was 93.

Three Seniors named to All-Conference 

Powell High School juniors and basketball standouts Jenni Ebersberger and Kalei Smith were each named to the Class 3A All-State basketball lists.

Seven Powell Wrestling Club members claimed first place in their division during a tournament in Cody March 15.

Six more were runners-up and eight finished third. The club brought a 36-wrestler team to the tourney.

Myra Jean Schmidt Riley, 74, of Ralston, died on March 16, 2014, at Spirit Mountain Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer.

Nada Jo Ivy

(Aug. 6, 1930 - March 16, 2014)

Nada Jo Ivy died Sunday morning, March 16, 2014, at the Powell Valley Care Center after a prolonged fight with Alzheimer’s. She was 83.

The Lady Panther basketball team claimed third place in Class 3A on Saturday morning, beating Newcastle 46-33.
