A double-fatal crash on U.S. Highway 287 between Muddy Gap and Rawlins Friday afternoon has closed a section of the road.

A pair of semis collided head-on at 12:47 p.m., according to Cody Beers, Wyoming Department of Transportation public involvement specialist.

One of the vehicles was carrying oil, Beers said, and there was an explosion and fire.

The section of US 287 between Muddy Gap and Rawlins is closed for an indefinite period, Beers said. The scene of the crash is 28.6 miles north of Rawlins near Lamont. Lamont is about 250 miles south of Powell.

The Western Sugar Cooperative has been cited for 12 safety violations in connection with a Jan. 4 death at the coperative's Lovell factory. The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is proposing penalties that total $71,000, the agency announced in a Thursday afternoon news release.

One hundred ninety-three students will walk across the stage Saturday during Northwest College Commencement Exercises. The processional begins at 10:30 a.m. in NWC Cabre Gym, behind the DeWitt Student Center.

Jesse Allen Wyatt of Frannie died May 1, 2014, at Powell Valley Hospital. He was 74.

A memorial service for longtime Frannie resident Barbara Phillips will be held Saturday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Deaver.

Bill Bormuth, 69, of Cody, died at Spirit Mountain Hospice on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, after a short fight with cancer.
