Mildred ‘Millie’ Hyder

(Nov. 9, 1928 - Jan. 28, 2013)

Mildred “Millie” Hyder, formerly of Aberdeen, Miss., died on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. She was 84.

Millie was born Nov. 9, 1928, in Pennington Gap, Va. She attended college at University of the Cumberlands, Ky., majoring in education, after which she taught school for several years in Tennessee. She married Bert Hampton Hyder, Jr., June 8, 1950.

Judy Schultz

Judy Schultz, 65, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. She was preceded in death by her daughter Kitty Marie, brother Little Jim and parents Jim and Kitty Fike and Ernie and Helen Schultz.

Edith Blackstone

(Oct. 28, 1922- Jan. 20, 2013)

Edith Blackstone, of Cody, died at West Park Hospital Long Term Care Center on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013. She was 90.

Edith was born Oct. 28, 1922 in Forsythe, Mont. to Hugh and Mary Taylor Lennon. She graduated from Three Forks High School in Montana as valedictorian.

Vernon ‘R.D.’ Nielsen

(Sept. 5, 1951 - Jan. 22, 2013)

Vernon “R.D.” Nielsen of Alva, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 as the result of a logging accident. He was 61.

Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at the Greater Hulett Community Center in Hulett. Burial followed at the Alva Cemetery.

Vernon "R.D." Nielsen

(Sept. 5, 1951 - Jan. 22, 2013)

Vernon "R.D." Nielsen of Alva, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 as the result of a logging accident. He was 61.

City chooses Cowley landfill

Park County stands to lose $450,000 in coming year

In a move that saves money for the city but costs Park County, the Powell City Council decided Monday to take local trash to Cowley instead of Cody.

The one-year agreement started Tuesday, and city leaders say the move will save roughly $63,000. That’s primarily because Cowley is charging $78 per ton to process Powell’s trash.

Marvin Gimmeson

Marvin C. Gimmeson, 74, of Casper, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 at the Shepherd of the Valley Care Center in Casper.

Marvin was born Sept. 12, 1938 in Powell to Williard Gimmeson and Margaret McPherson Gimmeson. He attended elementary, junior high and high school in Powell where he enjoyed participating on the PHS football and basketball teams. He also attended two years of college at Northwest College.

(Feb. 23, 1963 - Jan. 18, 2013)

Debra Fay LeBlanc, 49, of Cody, died in the comfort of her home on Jan. 18, 2013.

She was the daughter of Wilson and Audrey LeBlanc, and was born Feb. 23, 1963 in Cody.

Ralph Louis Sorensen

(May 17, 1938 - Jan. 18, 2013)

Ralph Louis Sorensen, 74, of Cody, died Jan. 18, 2013 due to complications from congenital heart failure.

Ralph was born May 17, 1938 in Casper. He grew up in Casper, graduated from Natrona High School and then received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming in education. He met his wife, Carolyn, at UW and they were married in 1959.
