NWC men’s soccer falls at home to Western Wyoming, 2-0

With Homecoming festivities in full swing for Powell High School last week, it was also a homecoming of sorts for the Northwest College men’s soccer team, as the Trappers were back on their home pitch after three games on the road.

It began last season as a single act of defiance: San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaerpernick choosing to kneel during the national anthem before a game, a silent protest against the treatment of African-Americans in this country.

A community meeting to address Powell’s need for more affordable housing may have generated more questions than answers, as local rental property owners voiced their concerns over a proposed apartment project that would be subsidized with tax credits.

Trappers head men’s soccer coach Stan Rodrigues knew a road game against conference rival Laramie County Community College was going to be a tough one.

The Northwest College women’s soccer team finished up three straight games on the road with a 10-0 loss at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne Saturday. The Lady Trappers are now 0-5 on the season.

An inability to find the back of the net continued to plague the Lady Trappers soccer team over the weekend, as NWC was held scoreless twice, falling to Gillette and Sheridan 5-0 and 6-0 respectively Friday and Saturday.

New affordable apartments may be on the horizon in Powell, and the developer wants to hear from the community as the plans take shape.
