In climbing vernacular, a “first ascent” is the culmination of one’s climbing career.

Despite chilly temps, the Powell High School girls’ soccer team opened the 2018 season fired up, winning its opener in a 1-0 shutout against Pinedale on Friday. The Lady Panthers fell to Star Valley on Saturday, 4-0.

Powell High School boys’ soccer coach Jeff Dent knew going into the weekend’s season-opening games against Pinedale and Star Valley that his young team would have its hands full.

Going into the state tournament earlier this month, the Park County girls’ hockey team knew they had a target on their backs.

Starting this fall, the price of on-campus housing and meals at Northwest College is going up.

For the first time in over 40 years, the State of Wyoming plans to offer a grizzly hunt in 2018, with a 24-bear limit on the animals roaming outside of the national parks in the northwest portion of the state.

After a tough loss against Douglas in the 3A State Tournament semi-finals on Friday, the Powell High School girls’ basketball team rebounded nicely on Saturday, knocking off Star Valley 40-34 to take third place in Casper. 

Despite a spirited second half comeback, the Lady Trappers’ hopes for a Region IX title were not to be as Western Nebraska Community College held on for a 67-62 win in the Region IX semifinals Friday night at Casper College.

For the first 30 minutes of Saturday’s Region IX play-in game against Central Wyoming, the Northwest College men’s basketball team did everything it needed to win.

On his first official Friday as Northwest College women’s soccer coach, Bobby Peters decided to get a feel for his new school by attending the Region IX-North women’s basketball play-in game at Cabre Gym.
