The end of the rental store

Video Experience owner Eric Paul brings a table of DVDs and Blu-ray discs back inside his store, shortly before it closed for good. Saturday marked the end of Paul’s video rental business, which was the last of its kind in the area.

When Eric Paul opened Video Experience in Cody in 1994, one of his rental competitors dropped by with an unfriendly message: set your rental rates the way I want or I’ll crush your business.

Pioneers swept by Halos

The Powell Pioneers opened the American Legion baseball season with a pair of losses. The team has more than a week to prepare for its next games, doubleheaders against the Billings Angels on May 25 and 26.

Youth shows in season opener

The Powell Pioneers dropped a doubleheader to open American Legion baseball season last Saturday. The team fell 7-5 and 12-7 to the Billings Halos in what head coach Jason Borders described as a learning experience.

Farewell, music man

Hansen is retiring this spring after 31 years at Northwest College.

The same person who inspired Neil Hansen to teach music also lured him to Wyoming, starting the chain of events that led him to Northwest College five years later.

Panthers qualify 52 for state

The Powell Panthers qualified 52 event slots for this week’s state track and field championships as the Panther boys finished as the 3A West regional runner-up on Saturday in Lander. Powell’s girls placed third overall.
