Leadership changes continue in Powell school district

Two school leaders plan to step into new positions

Leadership in several Powell schools will change for the 2012-13 school year, following announced resignations of two principals and the proposed transfer of leaders at two other schools.

Luke Danforth resigned last week as principal of the Shoshone Learning Center. That follows the previously announced resignation of Bill Schwan as Powell High School principal.

Kevin Mitchell, superintendent of Park County School District No. 1, said plans are for Ginger Sleep to replace Danforth at Shoshone Learning Center. Sleep currently is principal of Southside Elementary School.

Mitchell said he will make that recommendation during Tuesday’s meeting of the district school board.

Mitchell said he also plans to recommend that Scott Schiller replace Sleep at Southside.

Schiller currently is assistant principal and activities director at Powell Middle School.

Mitchell said he hopes to interview candidates for Powell High School principal in May. No timeline has been set yet for replacing Schiller at the middle school if his move to Southside is approved, Mitchell said.

“This is our first change in leadership for many years,” he said. While it is unusual, “We’ll take them as opportunities to grow.”
