Police re-examine case of Amy Wroe Bechtel

Written by Yancy Bonner

Authorities are taking a fresh look at the case of a Lander woman who went missing while jogging more than 14 years ago.

But Fremont County Sheriff Skip Hornecker says there is no new information about the Amy Wroe Bechtel case that sparked the new investigation.

Hornecker tells the Lander Journal that investigators want to close some loopholes in the case. He says the case is reviewed on a regular basis.

Wroe Bechtel disappeared on July 24, 1997, while running along the Loop Road in the Wind River Mountain Range.

Her parents, Joanne and the late Duane Wroe, lived in Powell when their daughter was reported missing. Duane Wroe was retired from his position as Powell city administrator.

Amy Wroe Bechtel, a former University of Wyoming athlete, was mapping a course for a road race when she disappeared. Her disappearance sparked a nationwide investigation that included agents from the FBI and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
