Owen Robert "Bob" Holm died May 10, 2010, at West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody after a long battle with multiple myeloma. He had just celebrated his 93rd birthday on May 4.

Bob was born May 4, 1917, to Roy and Margaret Holm in Cody and graduated from Cody High School in 1935. Music was an important part of his life and he played the piano, clarinet and saxophone. He played in the Cody High School band, the city band, the Cody Elks band and a dance band while attending the University of Wyoming.

While working in the family business delivering ice, Bob met the love of his life, Edith Marie Snyder, and they were married in Billings on March 30, 1940. This romance lasted 70 years. In 1942, after being rejected by the Army because of a heart murmur, Bob and Edith moved to California where he found work at Consolidated Aircraft building B-24 bombers for the Army Air Force. At night after work, Bob took classes in welding and after becoming certified, he went to work in the Kaiser Shipyards building Liberty Ships.

In 1944, Bob and Edith moved back to Cody where he became active again in the family business, and in October of that year, their eldest son, Glen, was born. Three years later in August 1947, another son, Roy, completed the family.

Throughout his life, Bob was very involved in the Cody community. He was a Masonic Lodge Master and a 27-year member of the Cody Volunteer Fire Department, even taking his turn as fire chief. He served on the City Council from 1964 to 1970 and served as president of the local motel association, of which he was a member.

Bob had a big smile and a warm greeting for everyone he met and the most gracious appreciation for the gift of family. He was also a worrier — if a family member was troubled, so was he.

Bob is survived by his wife, Edith; sons Glen (Nancy) and Roy (Mina); grandchildren Sydney Holm, Jessi Morris, Nathan Holm, Kyli Griffin (Trey), Aryn Rossett (Russell) and Quincy Sondeno (Ole); 5 great-grandchildren; sister Gloria Holm Peterson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Peg Frisby.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 21 at First Presbyterian Church of Cody. The casket will be open one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
