Chamber of commerce director fired

Posted

For the third time in as many years, the Powell Valley Chamber of Commerce is without an executive director.

Kim Dillivan received a letter of termination on Thursday morning, he said.

Dillivan said he believes the reasons are unjustified, and he has sought legal counsel.

“We’ll let the attorneys sort it out now,” Dillivan said Friday. “We’ll see where it goes from here.”

Gina Vogel, the membership programs coordinator, resigned from the chamber on Thursday, said Dan Hadden, chamber board president.

Hadden declined to give reasons for Dillivan’s termination.

“We’re just going to move on,” Hadden said Monday. “Things are going to change.”

A temporary employee is working at the chamber for now, overseeing secretarial responsibilities.

Hadden said a search for a new chamber director and programs coordinator will be under way soon. He added that he believes the chamber needs a director who has been involved in retail business and who can help keep local business owners upbeat in a difficult economy.

“We need to keep Powell prospering with a director who understands the retail community. That’s the bottom line,” Hadden said.

Dillivan was hired as the chamber’s executive director last spring, replacing Naomi Burns.

Burns served as director from November 2008 until resigning from the post in the spring of 2010.

Previously, Kim Capron held the position until she resigned in June 2008.
