Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 10:30 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Powell for Clyde Eugene (Gene) Lyda, 69, who died peacefully Friday, Aug. 26 at his home with his family by his side.

Pastor Clyde Seifert will officiate at services. Burial will be in the Rockvale, Mont. cemetery.

He was born May 19, 1936, in Golden, Mont., to Clyde and Olive (Brottem) Lyda. He held a master’s degree in Special Education and was a teacher.

He married Ruth Ann Kastner on July 16, 1961, at Bozeman, Mont. His served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960.

He was a member of the Lutheran church and Chi Sigma, a national science honorary.

His family meant the world to him. His children and grandchildren brought him many joys throughout his life.

As they remember him, the family is comforted by a Hebrew proverb: “Say not in grief “he is no more,” but live in thankfulness that he was.”

Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Ruth Lyda of Powell; sons Christian (Bud) Lyda and wife Keela of Casper and John (Sarah) Lyda of Billings, Mont.; daughters Cheri Tryon of Wasilla, Alas., Cathi (Cal) Sorenson of Powell, Cindi Weber of Powell, Crisi (Jeremy) Davidson of Billings and Ann Lyda of Ft. Collins, Colo.; brothers Stuart (JoAnne) Lyda, Claire (Barb) Lyda and Merle (LaVida) Lyda; sisters Darlene (Warren) Tietz and Cherie Bauwens; and 17 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Michael Paul Jefferson.

Pallbearers at the funeral will be Christian Lyda, John Lyda, Nicholas Haney, Jr., Jeremy Davidson, Brent Metzer and Troy Fischer.

Arrangements are by Thompson Funeral Home.
