Powell psychologist Gib Condie pleaded guilty to a felony charge of health care fraud at a Friday afternoon appearance in federal court in Cheyenne.

Condie's guilty plea to one count was part of a deal with federal prosecutors in which another 233 counts will be dismissed. He has agreed to serve three years in prison, pay $2.27 million in restitution and forfeit hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of personal property to the federal government.

It will be up to U.S. District Court Judge Alan Johnson to decide whether to accept the deal. A sentencing hearing has been set for Jan. 8. Condie will remain free on his own recognizance until then.

The U.S. Attorney's Office had alleged in a May indictment that the more than $6.8 million that Condie and his business, Big Horn Basin Mental Health Group, billed to Medicaid between June 2012 and February 2016 was fraudulent. Prosecutors say Condie had set up a network of providers — some of them unlicensed — while representing in his bills to Medicaid that he was the one providing the services. Most of the money from Medicaid was passed on to those providers, while Condie kept a percentage for himself, prosecutors say. They say that in other instances, Condie misrepresented the services that were being provided.
