A Powell man was killed when his truck rolled over in the Frannie area on Thursday evening.
The crash occurred on Park County Road 1XG, about 1.2 miles west of Frannie.
James “Jimmy” Sanderson, 45, was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene, said Park County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lance Mathess.
Sanderson had reportedly been driving east on Road 1XG at about 50 miles an hour when — as he crested a hill with a slight curve — the truck began sliding on the gravel road, Mathess said. Sanderson then overcorrected and slid sideways, rolling the 2003 Ford F-150, Mathess said.
The crash was reported to the Park County Sheriff’s Office at 6:22 p.m. Thursday.
Sanderson was not wearing his belt, Mathess said. A passenger, 35-year-old Tess L. Watson of Lovell, was also not wearing a seat belt, but she was not ejected, Mathess said. Watson was taken to Powell Valley Hospital for treatment and later released.
She told authorities that “Sanderson had been drinking beer prior to the crash” and there were numerous empty beer cans in and around the vehicle, Mathess said.
“Alcohol as well as failure to control appear to be contributing factors in the crash,” Mathess said.
In addition to the Sheriff’s Office, units from the Powell Ambulance and Lovell EMS were also dispatched to the scene, due to its proximity to the Big Horn/Park county line that splits the Town of Frannie. Because of the death, a trooper from the Wyoming Highway Patrol and the Park County Coroner also assisted.
