Tennis shoes should be at the ready.

Two winners will be drawn Friday at 5 p.m. and alerted that they will be taking a supermarket Holiday Shopping Spree in the early afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 19 at either Mr. D’s Super Market in Powell or Blair’s Super Market in Powell.

The two winners will be randomly drawn from the accumulated sticky notes dropped off at businesses that participated in the Powell Tribune’s 2015 Holiday Shopping Spree Giveaway sponsored by Blair’s, Mr.D’s and Pepsi of Powell.

There’s a footnote to this supermarket “shopping spree.” It’s free.

Winners will have two minutes to grab and pile as much as possible in shopping carts at the respective stores.

Friday, Dec. 18, is the last day to take sticky notes to the participating businesses to be registered as many times as possible before the 5 p.m. drawing.

On Saturday, the first two-minute spree will be at Blair’s at 1 p.m. That will be followed at 1:30 p.m. by a second winner for a two-minute spree at Mr. D’s.

Both Powell supermarkets view the promotion as a way of saying thanks to the community for its support throughout the year.

“It’s fun,” said Brent Foulger, owner of Blair’s Super Market. “It’s enjoyable to help the community out and get some excitement going. That’s what it’s all about.”

Chris Demoney, manager at Mr. D’s, echoed the sentiment.

“I think it’s a good thing,” he said. “It’s some way to give back to the community.”

The two stores have certain restrictions in place for the two-minute sprees.

At Blair’s, tobacco, alcohol and gift cards are excluded. A limit is applied on the number of any one item, including meat.

Similarly at Mr. D’s, liquor is off limits. Generally, Mr. D’s sets a guideline of two of any other item in the store, exclusive of meat products. Three products in the meat department are allowed, but only two of any one kind.
