Lisa Harsh brings 20 years of higher education experience to her new role as the University of Wyoming Outreach School’s academic coordinator for the Northwest Regional Center.
Harsh, whose background has prepared her to help UW distance education students fulfill their academic goals, serves students in Cody, Powell, Worland, Basin, Greybull, Lovell and Meeteetse.
Harsh takes over the outreach coordinator’s position from Beverly Bell, who retired June 30. The appointment of Harsh was finalized by UW this week. She has been working in the outreach office since Oct. 5.
From January to August of this year, Harsh was interim manager of Project Succeed, a federal grant program in the Student Success Center. From 2002-2012, she was career and transfer adviser for Project Succeed.
With 10 years of experience as a career and transfer adviser, Harsh is ready to help students match their academic plans to their professional objectives. She worked at Western Wisconsin Technical College and the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse and also worked in higher education in Illinois and South Dakota, giving her a strong foundation for working with diverse populations.
Her past employment at Northwest College in Powell enables her to maintain the strong partnership between UW and the college, as well as continue to further relationships within the community and surrounding areas.
“Lisa’s experience in higher education and her knowledge of the community and Northwest College is a great addition to the Outreach School and our efforts to serve the residents of northwest Wyoming,” said Scott Seville, UW Outreach School associate dean.
Harsh sets her sights on preserving UW’s strong relationship with Northwest College, and increasing visibility of the educational opportunities available in northwest Wyoming. But, her passion lies in her work with students.
“I love helping students choose careers, and then exploring the degree options based on their career interests,” Harsh says. “They can stay in their home community while earning their degrees. That’s what I enjoy.”
Since Harsh is responsible for a large region, appointments are recommended. Schedule a visit with her from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the following locations:
• Powell: Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
• Cody: Tuesday.
• Adjacent towns (based on need): Thursday.
