Deputies from the Park County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating

A string of overnight burglaries reportedly occurred within a one-block area of Meeteetse.

The first report was received at 7:29 a.m. Monday by the Park County Sheriff’s Communications Center, when a caller reported that a vehicle on South Street was entered sometime overnight and two firearms were missing, according to a news release from the Park County Sheriff’s Office.

Afterward, several other vehicles were reported entered overnight within a one-block area encompassed by South Street, Water Avenue, Warren Street and Park Avenue, also known as State Highway 290. All told, a total of seven vehicles were entered and a total of three firearms taken from two of them. None of the vehicles were locked.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office are investigating all of the reported incidents.

There is evidence that all seven vehicles were entered and searched by the thieves. However, with the exception of the three firearms, it appears as though nothing else is missing.

Also at 9:34 a.m., the Communications Center received a report that the Meeteetse Visitor Center at 2005 Warren St. had been broken into and an undetermined amount of cash was missing. The thieves gained access to the visitor center by breaking through the front door, causing significant damage to the door and frame. At this time, it appears as though the cash is the only thing missing from the center, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on these burglaries is asked to contact the Park County Communications Center at 307-527-8700. All information will remain confidential. Sheriff Scott Steward is cautioning residents to be alert and report any suspicious activity to the Communications Center. He also reminds all residents to secure their residences and vehicles at all times.
