Cody man killed in three-car crash on 14-A

Posted

A crash on Tuesday involved three vehicles and claimed the life of Ivan Z. Christopherson, 76, of Cody.

The crash occurred at 3:50 p.m. near mile post 8 on U.S. Highway 14-A, 8 miles north of Cody.

A 2003 Lincoln Town Car driven by Clarence F. Andersen, 81, of Lovell, was travelling north on U.S. 14-A. For unknown reasons, the Town Car veered across the center turn lane and both southbound lanes of the highway. After veering into the southbound lanes, the Town Car crashed head-on with a southbound 1995 Ford Thunderbird driven by Mr. Christopherson.

After crashing with the Thunderbird, the Town Car spun into a 1996 Buick Regal driven by Cody resident Shirley J. Wall, 77. The Buick also was traveling south. After the Town Car and Buick collided, the Buick spun sideways, tripped and rolled one and one-half times. The Town Car continued to spin, left the road and came to rest on the driver’s side of the car facing west.

Mr. Christopherson was wearing his seat belt, but sustained fatal injuries on scene.

It is unknown whether Andersen was wearing his seat belt during the crash. He was transported by ground ambulance to West Park Hospital in Cody and was hospitalized.

Wall was wearing her seat belt and also was transported by ground ambulance to West Park Hospital in Cody and was treated for her injuries and released.

Driver inattention is being investigated as the contributing factor in this crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
