Pat Miller dies in two-car collision Saturday

Posted

Patricia “Pat” Miller of Powell was killed Saturday when the vehicle she was driving was hit broadside at the intersection of Wyo. Highway 295 and Lane 5.

Miller, 70, was driving south on Highway 295 in a 1987 Subaru station wagon at about 6:05 p.m., when Beverly Keenan, 76, who was driving west on Lane 5 in a white 2010 Toyota Corolla, failed to stop at the stop sign, according to a report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred about 5 miles north of Powell.

Lt. Philip Farman, WHP district supervisor in Cody, said Keenan’s car struck Miller’s vehicle on the driver’s side. After the collision, Miller’s Subaru spun and left the highway to the west, where it overturned.

Keenan’s vehicle continued straight and ended up in a ditch on its wheels, Farman said.

Miller, who was not wearing her seat belt, was ejected and sustained fatal injuries on scene, the report said.

Keenan, a Cowley resident, who was wearing her seat belt, sustained minor injuries. She was transported by ground ambulance to Powell Valley Hospital, where she was treated and released, the report said.

Ron Miller, commander of the Hughes Pittinger American Legion Post No. 26, was in pain as he discussed Miller’s death. His voice shook as he spoke about learning the sad news.

“I was devastated,” Miller said. “She was a princess.”

They were not related but had been friends for about 30 years, he said. Pat Miller was a past commander of the post and had served as adjutant for several years. It was a post she held until her death.

“Probably the most important one of all,” Ron Miller said. “Adjutants, they do everything. They’re the kingpin.”

Jackie Graham had been friends with Pat Miller for many years. They met through the Legion post, where Graham’s husband was a member.

“She’s the most fantastic person that ever was,” Graham said. “We’re just devastated over her loss, that’s for sure. What a lady. What a loss.”
