Several candidate forums are scheduled in coming days as local races heat up prior to the Aug. 19 Republican primary.

The Powell Tribune will host a forum for House Districts 25 and 50 candidates on Wednesday, Aug. 6, in the Nelson Performing Arts Auditorium.

At 6:30 p.m., House District 25 Rep. Dave Blevins and challenger Dan Laursen will debate the issues in their race.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., District 50 Rep. David Northrup and challenger Charles Cloud will take the stage.

The public may submit questions for the candidates. A meet-and-greet will be held following the 90-minute event.

Several individuals and groups are hosting other forums.

Park County sheriff candidates Scott Stewart, who is the incumbent, Deputy Bruce Olson and former deputy Roger Dunn, as well as District 50 Rep. David Northrup and challenger Charles Cloud are all scheduled to attend an informal event in Clark Monday night.

They will be at the Clark Pioneer Recreation Center, 321 Road 1 AB, at 7 p.m. Organizer Shirley Bentley said the candidates will say a few words about themselves and the campaign and then field questions during the meeting.

“I just want people to be informed and vote,” Bentley said. She can be reached at 307-645-3229.

The Park County Republican Party has scheduled a pair of Lincoln-Douglas-style debates Wednesday in Cody.

District 50 Rep. Northrup and Cloud will go first at 6:30 p.m., followed by District 24 Rep. Sam Krone and challenger Bob Berry.

The debates will be held downstairs in the meeting room of the Big Horn Federal Savings Bank at 17th and Stampede.

Camara Clifton will moderate this debate. The public will be able to write out questions prior to the start of the debates.

The Park County Republican Women have scheduled a pair of forums to be held at Northwest College next week.

At the same time and location Tuesday, Aug. 5, the candidates for county clerk — Incumbent Jerri Torczon, Tod Larson and Colleen Renner — as well as the trio running for sheriff, will discuss their races.
