PHS offering old trophies this weekend

Written by Dave Bonner

The trophy case is spilling over, and long-ago won spoils by Powell High School teams are going to be up for grabs.

During the PHS Alumni Weekend, the high school storehouse of trophies will be opened up and offered to those who would want them in a personal collection.

“When we moved from the old gym to the new high school, we didn’t have enough room for all the trophies to be displayed. We tried to keep all the state championship trophies, but others are just sitting in boxes,” said Tim Wormald, PHS athletic director.  “We want to make them available.”

The old trophies will be on display on a table during the all-alumni breakfast on the lawn outside the chamber of commerce building Saturday morning.

“Your name doesn’t have to be on the trophy (to have it),” said Wormald. “If it’s meaningful, speak up.”

Alumni Weekend kicks off Friday with class gatherings around town and continues through the weekend. Several Powell bars will be open all night Saturday as part of the festivities.
