A Powell man remains in intensive care at a Billings hospital after suffering a head injury in a Jan. 19 altercation.
Ryan Gutierrez, 31, underwent surgery on Wednesday to remove a blood clot from his brain, said his brother, Chad Gutierrez.
Chad Gutierrez said Friday that his brother is in stable condition, but “it’s going to be a long recovery for him, and we’ve just got to take it day by day.”
The incident occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. at LaVina Package Liquors and reportedly followed some “smack talk” about football, said Powell Police Chief Roy Eckerdt.
Eckerdt said the information reported to police was that there was a scuffle in which Ryan Gutierrez pushed a man and the man’s 22-year-old son, Billy Harshman of Powell, punched Gutierrez. Gutierrez was knocked to the ground and hit his head, Eckerdt said of the report.
Police — who continue to investigate the incident — issued misdemeanor citations for simple battery to both Gutierrez and Harshman. Gutierrez was taken to Powell Valley Hospital and soon airlifted to Billings.
“We’re just asking for thoughts and prayers,” said Chad Gutierrez. He added that his family appreciates the support it’s already received from the Powell area.
“We feel the love from our small community,” Chad Gutierrez said.
