Earlier story: Sheriff’s office investigating apparent homicide at Sand Coulee

Written by Tribune Staff

Park County Sheriff Scott Steward addressed the media at 2 p.m. today (Friday) about Thursday's discovery of a apparent homicide victim near Little Sand Coulee Road. An updated story can be found here.

The body was reportedly found just before noon on Thursday about 1.5 miles west of Wyo. Highway 294, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Indications at the scene led the sheriff's office, U.S. Bureau of Land Management and Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation personnel to treat the death as a homicide.

The sheriff's office is declining to release any further information until Steward's press briefing.

"The investigation is currently underway ... please understand that there is little I can say at this time due to the sensitivity and integrity of the investigation," said Lance Mathess, spokesman for the sheriff's office, in a Thursday afternoon email to media.

Little Sand Coulee Road is currently closed to all traffic.

The Tribune will post more information as it becomes available, including from Friday afternoon's press briefing.
