A woman wanted on more than 40 warrants in Utah and Wyoming -- including one in Park County -- is on the lam again after somehow being released from a Salt Lake City hospital Wednesday afternoon.
Staff at the University of Utah medical center released 34-year-old Jamie Lindsay Cleghorn around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Deputy Uintah County, Utah, Attorney John Gothard told the Tribune.
"She's on the run again," Gothard said Thursday.
Gothard said his office, based in Vernal, Utah, had believed campus police at the University of Utah were monitoring Cleghorn's condition; he said the hospital did not notify police when Cleghorn was released.
A spokeswoman for University of Utah Health Care said she did not believe Cleghorn had been treated at their facility.
Law enforcement had been seeking Cleghorn's arrest since she missed a court appearance in Uintah County last month in connection with 27 misdemeanor and felony charges. Cleghorn had been free on a $10,000 bond and was supposed to be wearing an ankle monitor and stay in Utah as part of her conditions of release in Uintah County, Gothard said.
Instead, police say Cleghorn came to Wyoming. In Powell, she used bogus checks to buy roughly $1,080 worth of items at Shopko on July 30 and 31, according to charging documents.
Police caught a break on Monday afternoon when an alert teller at Cody's First Bank of Wyoming called 911 to report a woman -- who police believe was Cleghorn -- was trying to cash a check that the account holder hadn't authorized.
An alert was issued and as a result of the work of law enforcement in Park County, a Hot Springs County sheriff's deputy located Cleghorn's vehicle near Thermopolis. Cleghorn, police say, then led law enforcement on a chase through the Wind River Canyon and Shoshoni to Riverton. It ended when she crashed her vehicle.
She was airlifted to the University of Utah Hospital on Monday night for treatment of her injuries, Powell police said.
