Mural erased

Fresh paint covered the mural of movie icons at the former Video Experience Tuesday morning.

Artist Blake Neubert, formerly of Powell, painted the mural.

“I was always amazed and flattered by people’s response to the mural over the years. Even a year or so ago, I would see people standing by it and posting it on Facebook,” Neubert said. “People from other towns even knew about it.” Video Experience closed this month, and owner Eric Paul contacted Neubert to let him know the mural was being painted over. Paul said he made the decision to avoid legal issues with the movie studios (one warned him years ago about the use of the copyrighted images) and because it’s no longer a video store.

“I appreciate Eric for keeping it up as long as he did and the people of Powell for appreciating it. The sad part isn’t losing the mural — it’s losing Video Experience,” Neubert said.

Mountain West Computer is leasing the building and will move its store to the new location, Paul said.
