Florida fugitive nabbed in Clark

Written by Tribune Staff

A Florida man reportedly on the run from authorities was nabbed in Clark on Monday by a task force of local and federal law enforcement officers.

Park County Sheriff Scott Steward announced the arrest of fugitive David Leon Lashley, 50, in a Tuesday morning news release.

Lashley had skipped out on a February court appearance in Florida and assumed the fake name of Wesley Byrd, Steward said. Lashley is also suspected as having faked his own death at some point, Steward said. Lashley fled Florida in a motor home before being caught in the Clark area, said Sheriff's Office spokesman Lance Mathess.

Mathess said Lashley had two firearms with him at the time of his arrest, but was taken into custody without incident.

Lashley waived his right to contest his extradition to Florida at an unremarkable Tuesday morning appearance in Circuit Court in Cody.

The Tribune will have a more complete story in Thursday's newspaper.
