Tribune photo by Randal Horobik PHS adds to advanced qualifier count for state meet The Powell Panthers added four additional advanced qualifiers to their state track and field roster on Tuesday afternoon at the Greybull Relays. Individual events and team standings took a back seat to efforts to surpass the state's qualifying standards at the meet.

The traditional track and field schedule of events was discarded as a handful of schools took advantage of the opportunity to qualify for the state meet in advance of next weekend's 3A regional competition. Four Panther entries did just that.

“Not only was it a productive night for results, it was a good workout to run in a competition,” said Panther track coach Scott Smith. “I'm very happy that the kids got out and performed in that meet. We had good times, great effort and we're gaining experience. Only three of the 18 kids that competed for us today were seniors.”

Three Panther relay teams capitalized on the chance to earn a spot in Casper on Tuesday. Both the boys' and girls' 4x400 relay teams recorded times fast enough to earn automatic qualifier status.

The boys' 4x400 roster of Rustin Myrick, Kyle Sullivan, Gavin Mills and Patrick Sullivan turned in four laps in a time of 3:35.53 on Tuesday, roughly half a second faster than necessary. The girls' 4x400 quartet of Kassey MacDonald, Alyssa Rodriguez, Stephanie Paul and Desiree Murray roared to a time of 4:22.46, easily surpassing the qualifying standard by 2.5 seconds.

The Panthers also earned a spot in Casper for their boys' 4x100 team (Drew MaGill, Tanner Eden, Josh Cragoe and Gavin Mills). Similar to the 4x400 crew, the Panthers' sprint relay came in half a second under the qualifying standard with a time of 45.51 seconds.

While individual events were at a minimum on Tuesday evening, the Panthers were able to sneak an automatic qualifier through in the 110-meter hurdles. Kyle Sullivan won the event with a time of 15.56 seconds, breaking the finish line well under the 16-second barrier needed. Josh Cragoe (16.47) and Ty England (17.6) also ran in the race.

Cragoe and England both tried to earn qualifier spots in the 300-meter hurdles as well. Cragoe won the race in a time of 43.49, but wasn't able to come in under the qualifying standard. England finished with a time of 46.47 for the event.

Also missing qualifying standards in Greybull were the Panther girls' 4x100 relay team of Alyssa Rodriguez, Kami Cooley, Stephanie Paul and Kendra Ostrum (53.54) and 4x800 relay of Tamara Brown, Claire Wetzel, Kassey MacDonald and Desiree Murray (11:29.3). The boys' 4x800 relay of Patrick Voss, Zach Thiel, Patrick Sullivan and Dallas Robirds also came up short of the needed qualifying standard (9:00.52).
