(June 21, 1918 - April 15, 2009)

Al Hoffmann passed into the eternal care of his Savior, Jesus Christ, in the Powell Hospital early on Wednesday morning, April 15, 2009.

Born June 21, 1918 near Ashley N.D., he made his way through youth as a semi-orphan until old enough to enlist in the U.S. Army. He served during W.W. II and was honorably discharged in 1945 after having achieved the rank of First Sergeant.

During his furlough in 1940 he married “My Frieda” (Frieda Frey) also from North Dakota. Three sons were born to this union: Ken, LeRoy (Bud) and ElRoy, who died shortly after birth.

Vocational schooling and work in North Dakota led him to the decision that he and his family could have a better life in Wyoming where his half-brothers, Harry, Ed and Ronnie Knopp had previously settled. Al and family moved to rural Powell in 1952.

Al worked at Modern Electric in Powell and later at the Powell Post Office where he enjoyed serving the public for nearly twenty years. He retired in 1978. In his retirement he continued to be active in the church. He was an election judge, school bus substitute driver and he and “his Frieda” traveled extensively.

Al was a member of First Baptist Church all his years in Powell where he considered serving the Lord a privilege.

He is survived by his wife, Frieda, sons, Ken (Cordelia) and LeRoy (Linda), grandchildren Sydney (David) Millage, Jason (Terri), Andrew (Ka-Lee), Sam (Robin), and Troy Hoffmann as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Other survivors are half-siblings Lillian Benningfield, Harry and Ronnie Knopp. Al was predeceased by son, ElRoy and brother, Ed Knopp.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Viewing will be one hour prior to services at the church, burial will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
