William Wesley (Bill) Andreen, 70, died Tuesday, May 2 at the Powell Valley Hospital.
He was born in Thermopolis on May 19, 1935, to Frank and Lucile Andreen. He attended school in Bellville and Thermopolis and then served two years in the military.
He worked on ranches and built fences and married Ilene Timmons in Worland in 1970. They lived at Lost Cabin for 13 years and then he was employed by the University of Wyoming Research and Extension Center in Powell for 15 years until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife Ilene of Powell; one daughter, Betty Lynn Andreen of Powell; one son, Wesley Andreen of Florida; four brothers and four sisters.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; his stepmother; three brothers and one sister, as well as his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ted and Betty Timmons.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be Tuesday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Powell.
Raymond W. Haskins - May 5, 2006
Services for Raymond Wayne Haskins, 80, who died Friday, May 5, 2006, in Douglas, were May 27 at the First United Methodist Church in Casper.
Internment followed in the Wheatland Cemetery in Wheatland.
He was born in Morrill, Neb., on March 27, 1926, the son of William and Frances Merle (Walburn) Haskins. He was reared and educated in Torrington, graduating from Torrington High School in 1944. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. Following the war, he was married to Shirley Dee Bullock on July 3, 1946, in Torrington, and to this union was born Richard Paul, Dee Rae, Barron Vale, Donald William and Dawn Elaine.
He attended and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor's degree in education plus 67 extra college credits. He was a four-year letterman on the football team and was the vice-president of the “W” club.
He taught in the public schools for 25 years and was a coach for 18 years in football, basketball, track and baseball. He officiated football and basketball at the high school and college level.
In March 1986 he retired from the Wyoming Army National Guard after 25 years of service. He was the deputy commandant of the Wyoming National Guard Non-Commissioned Officer Academy the last eight years.
He was active in various clubs and organization which included American Legion, life member, commander, and other offices; 40 and 8; Elks, exalted ruler and other offices; Eagles; Moose; Masons; UW Alumni Association, life member; White Shrine office holder; National Education Association, life member; Jaycee, vice-president and other offices; Wyoming Official Association, football and basketball; Jobs Daughters, associate guardian; Boy Scout Master; Powell Classroom Teachers Association, president; American Red Cross, Powell secretary for five years; Douglas Real Estate Association, past president; Wyoming Industrial Arts, president in 1964-65; served as Wyoming Industrial Arts Association state president; Wyoming Republican Convention delegate from Park County in 1976; director of city recreation in Powell; and Sunday School teacher and church board member of United Methodist Church.
Political appointments and elective offices included School District No. 1 board member in Powell; Wyoming Recreation Association state president; Wyoming Youth Council, appointed member; Wyoming Recreation Commission, Powell representative; Wyoming Governor’s Planning Committee on Criminal Administration, appointed member; Wyoming National Guard Scholarship committee; and Mayor of Douglas, one term from 1990-94.
Honors included honor graduate of NCO Academy in San Luis Obispo, Calif., in 1974; outstanding instructor at Camp George West, Colo., in 1977; outstanding instructor at Wyoming Military Academy in 1976, 1979 and 1980; outstanding Elk in 1975; outstanding educator in Powell in 1972; and honorary Powell alum in 1995.
He owned and operated the Powell Youth Center for seven years, and was in real estate for five years in Douglas.
He enjoyed the big bands, dancing, reading and all outdoor activities.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Douglas; children, Rick (Sherry) Haskins of Phoenix, and sons, Tyler (Jill), Brody, and Cooper, Dee Wood of Douglas and sons Chase and Kael and great-granddaughter, Joey Rae Wood, and Dawn (Tim) Pexton of Douglas and children Brett and Brianna; grandson Barry (Brandi) Haskins Jr. and sons; sisters, Maxine Lamberson of Mitchell, Neb., Verna (Jack) Canfield of Torrington, Grace Senteney of Fort Laramie and Donna (Dean) Gulley of Douglas; brother, Dale Haskins of Torrington; and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Donald; son, Barry; and brother, Bill.
A memorial to the First United Methodist Church, 136 South Fifth Street, Douglas, WY 82633; Parkinson Association of the Rockies, 1420 Ogden Street, Denver, CO 80218; or to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family.
Ronald "Keith" Howell - May 6, 2006
Ronald (Keith) Howell, 72, died Saturday, May 6 at the Powell Valley Long Term Care Center from failing health associated with COPD.
He was born March 31, 1934, in Fresno, Calif., son of Joseph Douglas and Agnes Evelyn (Robson) Howell. He married JoAnne Ruth Lind on March 17, 1952, in Fresno.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1954 and worked in construction in California, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Arizona before moving to Powell in 1963. He began work in the oilfields and worked for CD&V Construction for many years. He was later employed by NL Acme Tool and was the manager until shortly after his wife’s death. Then he moved to Washington state to manage apartment complexes. He moved back to Powell to be near family when his health began to fail.
He was a member of Eastern Star and was a Mason and a Shriner.
He loved the outdoors and found great beauty in almost any type of terrain. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and four-wheeleing. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching any type of sports. He was especially fond of bowling and golf.
He enjoyed his yard and the flowers and color in a bright garden. He loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings, especially surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Dorothy Olson (Merlin) of Powell, Pam Larsen (Lester) of Great Falls, Mont., Connie Thull (Steve) of Powell and Ron Howell (Penny) of Laurel, Mont.; his grandchildren, Corey St. Laurent, Kelly Long, Leddy Chancler, Nathan Olson, Kristina Larsen, Casey Carter, Tammy Kotar, Steve Thull, Trenton Thull, Sherry Howell, Keith Howell and Heather Howell; his great-grandchildren, Matthew and Kirsten Thull, Autumn Brown, Candice and Austin Thull, Lauren Howell and Harrison St. Laurent, Jessie Olson and Kristen Massey, Taylor and Chance Olson, Hunter Carter, Degan Howell, Hunter, Jory and Aeolynn Howell, Dillon and Jayden Cunning and Nathan and Colton Devries; and a brother, Floyd Douglas Howell of Port Orchard, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his wife JoAnne and his parents.
Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned at this time.
Merlin Roger Brinkerhoff - May 9, 2006
Merlin Roger Brinkerhoff died Tuesday, May 9, at home in Cody of complications from diabetes.
He was 32.
He was born March 23, 1974, in Worland.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Jerry Davis; grandfather, Merlin Brinkerhoff; great-grandmother, Alph Davis; and great-grandfather, Jesse Davis.
He is survived by his father, Lonnie Brinkerhoff of Lovell; mother, Laurie Coombs of Redmond, Wash.; brothers, Jeremy Brinkerhoff and David Coombs; and one sister, Shari See of Gillette. He had five nieces, five nephews, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Services took place Friday, May 12 at Haskell Funeral Home. Burial was in the Byron Cemetery.
Rex Sprouse of Lovell died early Saturday, May 13, at Deaconess Billings Clinic after a long battle with cancer.
He was 78.
He was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Callaway, Neb., to George and Adelheit (Vollenweider) Sprouse. He was the youngest of eight children. He grew up in Callaway and apprenticed as a mechanic for two years with his brother, Roger “Peg." He served in Korea in 1946-47, then returned to Callaway to work as a mechanic and a volunteer fireman.
On March 9, 1949, he married Marjorie Timmons of Oconto, Neb. They had three daughters, who were all born in Callaway.
In 1955, he was hired by Sid Ryan to be a mechanic at his car dealership in Lovell. He, Marge and the three girls made the move to Wyoming where he resided until his death. During those years he worked for Sid Ryan for two years, the Warren lime quarry for several months and Ward Chevrolet for 12 years before starting his own business, Sprouse Motors. He retired from mechanic work in 1992. In 1994 he went to work for Georgia Pacific as a night watchman for seven years. He was also a charter member of North Big Horn Search and Rescue, which he helped establish in 1972.
The last five years of his life were spent enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, being part of the 8 a.m. coffee shift at Minchow’s, taking care of his yard and trying to win the lottery. Even on his last trip to Billings to be admitted to the hospital, he made sure he stopped at Bridger to buy his lottery ticket (no, it wasn’t a winner).
He battled cancer with strength and courage for more than 10 years. He was eventually diagnosed with three different cancers simultaneously. His case was so rare that Dr. Thomas Purcell lectured his case at Johns Hopkins Medical School.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Nigel, Albert and Waldo; and two sisters, Dolly and Wanda.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Judy Tippetts and Becky (Ron) Korell, both of Lovell, and Connie (Peter) Salm of West Valley City, Utah; seven grandchildren, Brook (Brandy) Tippetts and Sam Korell, both of Lovell, Karee Korell of Seattle, Matthew (Chasity) Korell of Miles City, Mont., Kensey, Jaclyn and Gentry Salm of West Valley City, Utah; and four great-granddaughters, Masey and Larissa Tippetts of Lovell and SheaLee and Kaitlyn Korell of Miles City. He is also survived by one sister and one brother, Arlene Province and Roger Sprouse, both of Madras, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Tuesday, May 16, at the United Methodist Church of Lovell with Pastor Catherine Moorehead officiating. Arrangements were handled by Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell and Stevenson’s and Sons Funeral Home of Miles City.
Memorial donations may be made to “Cancer Center, The Billings Clinic Foundation, P.O. Box 3566, Billings, MT 59103” or to the charity of one’s choice.
Zacheus Kyle Gebauer and Javan Paul Gebauer - May 14, 2006
Zacheus Kyle Gebauer and Javan Paul Gebauer, monoclonal identical twin sons of Levi and Whitney (Johnson) Gebauer of Greeley, Colo., were stillborn at University of Colorado Hospital in Denver, Colo., on May 14, 2006.
Memorial services were held at The Episcopal Chapel in Greeley. A premature birth of the twins at about seven months had been expected. The mother is the former Whitney Johnson of Powell.
Survivors include the parents of Greeley; grandparents, Vickie Johnson of Powell, Mark Sr. and Bobbi Gebauer of Mesa, Ariz., and Walt and Donna Hillard of Aberdeen, Wash.; uncles, Kyle Johnson of Powell, Mark Jr. and Oona Gebauer of Denver, and Joe and Rema Gebauer of Aberdeen, Wash.
Thomas R. "Rick" Boblett - May 14, 2006
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 29 at the home of Lynn and Jane Neale in Powell for former Powell resident, Thomas Richard (Rick) Boblett, 58, who died May 14 in Tempe, Ariz.
Survivors include his wife Rhonda (Neale) Boblett, daughter Candance and her husband, Johnathan Smock, all of Tempe; mother Redith Boblett and brother John Boblett of Portsmouth, Va.; in-laws Lynn and Jane Neale of Powell; and numerous extended family members.
He will be remembered for his deep love for his wife and daughter; his infectious laugh; generosity and kindness of spirit; wonderful sense of humor; and his incredible inner strength and courage.

Mary Ellen Moore - May 17, 2006
Mary Ellen Moore, 82, of Billings, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006. She was born on March 22, 1924, in Worden, Mont., the daughter of a true Montana cowboy and his schoolmarm wife, Jack and Grace Horton Kirch. As a school girl, she and her mother would ride on horseback to the one-room Baseline school, and for four of those years, her mother was also her teacher. As a young child she would sit at a treadle sewing machine and pretend that she was playing a piano. At long last, when she was in third grade, her parents gave her a piano. She had an agreement with her dad that for each piece of music she memorized, she would get two new pieces. Within a very short time, this promise had to be broken - she was a natural musician and could memorize everything she played. Following graduation from the Hysham school system, she began her career working at the Hysham post office, and while working there was swept off her feet by Donald Moore, who had come to Montana to work as a ranch hand. In 1942, she and Don were married while Don was serving in the Army in World War II. She and Don were the parents of two children, Donna and John.
She and Don managed the Yucca Theater in Hysham in addition to other full-time jobs. They moved to Powell in 1953 where he worked for Dave Manning Construction on the Hart Mountain Reclamation project and she began her career as a legal secretary. They returned to Billings in the early 1980s where she continued working in the legal field until her retirement. She was known for her knitting skills, her musical abilities and her loyalty to the attorneys for whom she worked. She was a caring mother and grandmother.She is survived by her daughter, Donna (John) Halpin of Hudson, Ohio; and her son, John (Carol) of Pocatello, Idaho. She is also survived by her grandson, Brett Kreutzmann of Fairfield, Ohio; her granddaughter, Shaunna Loveland of Burbank, Wash.; and two great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Grace Kirch, and her husband, Don Moore. Funeral services were Saturday, May 20, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Interment followed at Mountview Cemetery. Janette R. Pomeroy - May 19, 2006
Janette R. Pomeroy of Lusk died at her home Friday, May 19, 2006.
She was 60.
She was born Aug. 5, 1945, in Lusk to James S. and Florence Potter. She enjoyed many hobbies, including ceramics, gardening and camping with her family.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her loving husband, Norman Pomeroy of Lusk; mother, Florence R. Potter; children, Debra (Larry) Nordberg of Meeteetse, Mike Pomeroy of Cody, Roxanne Smith and Rob Schuetz of Powell and Trudy Pomeroy of Kalispell, Mont.; siblings, Judy (Jon) Martin of Lusk and James D. Potter of Lusk; grandchildren, Bethany and Sheridan, Josh and Todd, Cassie and Rory and Brian and Tara; one great-grandchild, Camarieon; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service took place Tuesday, May 23 at the Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk with Pastor Gary Walker officiating.
Magdalena Thormahlen - May 19, 2006
Magdalena Thormahlen, 92, of Park City, Mont., died May 19, 2006, in Puyallup, Wash., where she had been residing at an assisted living home for the past year. She was born in Belgium on Sept. 19, 1913, and came to the U.S. as an infant. She became a U.S. citizen in 1958. She lived in Kansas until she was a teenager, then moved to Montana. She also lived in Powell for many years and a few years in Washington. She married Ludwig (Lute) Thormahlen on Sept. 19, 1934, in Billings. She was a homemaker and also worked out of her home, cooking and cleaning for other people. She was blessed with three children, Robert, David and Dennis. Magdalena is survived by her two sons, Robert (Bob) Thormahlen of the Denver area and David (Gerri) Thormahlen of the Washington and Oregon areas; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Marguerite Goodman of Bridger, Mont. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel, Mont. Burial will be in the Bridger Cemetery at approximately 11:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow at the Bridger Caf after the burial. Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Park City, MT 59063.
Christina Mary Holderegger - May 19, 2006
Wyoming pioneer Christina (Tina) Mary Holderegger died May 19, 2006, at the Beehive Home in Evanston at the age of 95. She was born May 22, 1910, in a ranch house to John and Mary Friedlan outside of Powell. She was the first baby ever baptized in St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Powell. She lived most of her long life in Powell moving to Evanston to be near her son John and his family 12 years ago. She was the youngest of four Friedlan children, all of whom preceded her in death in birth order. She married Paul Holderegger in 1944 in Cody and they moved to Powell where he had a Harley-Davidson/Indian Motorcycle dealership. The couple spent countless hours touring on their Harley. John Holderegger, their son, was born in 1951 and was their only child. Paul preceded her in death in 1964. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid horsewoman and rode well into her 80s. She loved flowers and gardening, pets and livestock. She enjoyed boating with her husband and later with her son and his family. There was always an adventurous side of Christina and she loved to travel, going to post World War II Europe in 1947 and visiting California several times when her son lived there. She white water rafted the Snake River when she was 82 with her sister, Agnes, who was 85 at the time. She has two nieces who were like daughters to her - Margaret Fitzgerald of Seattle, and Mary Moore of Ramona, Calif. She enjoyed all the good times spent with them. She is survived by her son, John, and his wife, Leana; two grandsons, Michael and Daniel of Evanston; and a granddaughter, Amanda of Magna, Utah; her two nieces and countless other family members worldwide. She lived almost 96 years, dying just three days short of her 96th birthday. She will be remembered for her love of life, family and her church, to which she dedicated her life. A Mass celebrating her life will take place at St. Mary Magdalene's Catholic Church in Evanston at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 23. She will be buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell at a later date. Jared Rodriguez - May 20, 2006
Former Powell resident Jared James Rodriguez, 37, died on May 20 in Minneapolis, Minn.
He was born July 20, 1968, and was raised on the family farm in Powell. He attended schools in Powell graduating from high school in 1987. He moved to Minneapolis shortly after graduation and fell in love with the area, living there until his death. He graduated from the University of St. Thomas in 1996 and became a successful businessman in the Minneapolis area.
Jared married Karen Wilson, and to this union wwere born Tayler James, 5, and Alaina Marie, 3.
Jared had an enthusiasm for life and lived it to the fullest. He was overflowing with personality and made friends wherever he went. Jared especially enjoyed spending time with his wife and children and spent many hours working on their home and yard. He enjoyed following professional sports, in particular football and golf.
Jared is survived by his wife and children of Minnetonka; his parents, Dorothy Cool, of Canon City, Colo., and Jim and Becki Rodriguez of Powell; and his brother Jeremy Rodriguez, wife Amy and children Emily and Ryley of Penrose, Colo. His family finds comfort in knowing he is reunited with his beloved grandmother, Antonia Rodriguez, who preceded him in death by two years.
Cremation has taken place. Services were held in Eden Prairie, Minn., on May 25. Condolences can be sent to 14423 Spring Lake Road, Minnetonka, MN 55345.
Peter L. (Pete) Cordes - May 21, 2006
Former Powell resident, Pete Cordes, 44, died Sunday, May 21, 2006, in Lonetree, Colo., where he resided for the past few years.
He was born Nov. 27, 1962, in Powell to Forrest D. and Victoria Cordes.
He lived in Powell as a youth, as well as Iran and Venezuela, where his father worked for various oil companies. After high school, he attended Wyoming Technical Institute in Laramie, where he learned automotive body repair. He worked various jobs throughout the years, with his most recent position with a fiber optics company, XO Communications, in Lonetree.
Family was very important to him, especially his nieces and nephews who he spent as much time with as possible. He loved watching movies, his Nissan 350Z and his dog, Elmo. He was a straightforward guy — he either liked you or he didn't, and he would do anything for a friend.
He was preceded in death by an aunt, Yvonne Eaton.
He is survived by his parents, Frosty and Victoria Cordes of Powell; one sister, Suzan Velasquez-Grenier of Boulder, Colo.; and three brothers, Randy (Peggy) Cordes of Casper, Rene (Laurie) Cordes of Powell and Victor (Colleen) Cordes of Greeley, Colo. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews Michelle Garrett; Justin Cordes; Hannah, Teagan, Zane and Ryan Cordes; and Dylan Cordes, as well as two great-nieces, Randi and Brooke Garrett.
He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services will take place at a later date. Donations in his name can be made to a charity of choice.
Elsie Fink Meier, 81, died Wednesday afternoon, May 24 at the Billings Clinic of complications following open heart surgery.
She was born Aug. 18, 1924 in Lovell, the daughter of Fred and Louise Platsick Fink. She married Harold S. Meier, April 25, 1941 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Billings, Mont.
She farmed alongside her husband for many years east of Lovell. She worked in the dietary department for the North Big Horn Hospital for many years before retiring in 2000 at the age of 75. In 2003 she moved to Basin, Wyoming.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold and granddaughter Theresa Zo Scheeler. Elsie is survived by three sons, Edd L. Meier of Sahuarita, Ariz., Gary A. Meier of Basin and Donald S. Meier of Basin, WY; two daughters, Dolly L. Raber of Phoenix, Ariz., and Adele J. Lewis of Oro Valley, Ariz.; one brother, Herbert Fink of Lovell; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 30 at 1p.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Lovell with Rev. Christopher Brandt officiating. Burial followed at the Lovell Cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
Former Meeteetse resident Molly Ann (Schwager) Case, 58, Winnemucca, Nev., died Sunday, May 28 at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nev.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, June 1 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Winnemucca and Saturday, June 10 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Meeteetse at 2 p.m.
Funeral services for Tanna Sue Reed will be held at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday, June 6) at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette. Interment will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
Tanna Sue Reed, 48, of Gillette died on Tuesday, May 30 at her home of natural causes.
Shewas born on June 18, 1957 in Cody, the daughter of Jacob and Elva (Robbins) Kauffman. She attended school in Powell and graduated from Campbell County High School in 1975. Tanna married her soul mate and best friend Haskell “Chuck” Reed on May 27, 1989 in Gillette.
She was known in Gillette for helping others. She volunteered at the soup kitchen since the second day it started; she also helped with the food drives, the Christmas basket program and Cub Scouts, until her health declined.
Tanna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and past secretary for the Presbyterian Women’s Group. She also taught Bible School. Tanna loved watching her sons and grandchildren in sports, going camping, fishing and cooking for large groups and trying new recipes for her family and friends. She enjoyed helping others until her health declined. Tanna was a firecracker and will be remembered for her outgoing personality. She will also be remembered as an avid Denver Broncos fan and baseball enthusiast who actively supported her sons from Little League through American Legion Play. She also had an enormous love for cats of which she had very many in her life.
Survivors include her husband, Chuck; four sons: Gary Kelley of Gillette, Joshua Plato of Buffalo Levi Reed and Jedudiah Reed also of Gillette; her parents; Jacob and Elva Kauffman of Gillette; three sisters: Leahmae Haynes of Manning, S.C., Althea Haynes of Gillette and Amber Markley of Powell; one brother; Jason Kauffman of Gillette; maternal grandmother; Elenora Robbins of Powell; two granddaughters, one grandson, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by son, Michael Bain Kelley; and her maternal grandfather, Bain Robbins; paternal grandparents, Jacob and Margaret Kauffman.
