Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 6 at 10 a.m. at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home in Powell for Darwin (Pinky) Henrichs, 62, who died peacefully at Clark Tuesday, March 2.
He was born May 21, 1941, in Powell to Loyal J. and Mary M. Henrichs. He attended Powell schools.
In November of 1960, he and Carolyn Lynch were married in Powell. They were later divorced.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1962, serving until 1964, when he was honorably discharged. He spent his working days driving truck for a number of companies, among them L.L. Smith Trucking, Barney Rood Trucking, S&H Construction Co., and most recently, the Park County Road and Bridge Dept., which he referred to as Park County "Ruts and Bumps." He was a member of the Eagles Club in Thermopolis and also the U.S. Team Roping Championship organization. He took pride in having a good horse, his most recent one being called "Grumpy." He loved to fish, team rope and spend time ranching.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Krause of Powell; a very special friend, Sally Martin of Clark; daughters, L'Nette Doely and husband Greg of Powell and Brenda Shelby and husband Pat of Minneapolis, Minn.; a son, Danan Henrichs of wife Heather of Gilbert, Ariz.; his brother, Darrell Henrichs of Deaver; and seven grandchildren: Eric Doley and Laurie Johnson; Troy Palmer, Halie, and Jace Henrichs; and William and David Shelby.
He was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, Wayne Krause; and a grandson, Michael Shelby.
Should friends desire, memorials to a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Marilyn Blair-Proffitt - March 3
Memorial services will be Wednesday, March 10 at 3 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Cody for Marilyn Blair-Proffitt, 58, Powell, who died Wednesday, March 3 in Omaha, Neb., of a complicated illness.
She was born in Cody on July 11, 1945, to Quinn Blair and Elizabeth Horstman Blair. She graduated from Cody High School in 1963.
She attended Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Northwest Community College in Powell and went on to work in the counseling field.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Proffitt of Powell; daughter Angela Spradlin of Cody; son Jason (Jessica) Hogg of Carson, Wash.; son Ty (Danette) Nay of El Centro, Calif.; stepdaughter Lynette Hessenthaler of Boise, Idaho; stepson Danny Proffitt of Billings, Mont.; her father, Quinn (Ruth) Blair; her mother, Elizabeth Horstman Blair; her sisters, Elizabeth (Keith) Kendall-Browne and Barbara Smith; her brother, Ted (Judy) Blair; eight grandchildren, Madison, Joshua, Jace, Derrick, Autumn, Douglas, Hannah and Raven; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. For those who wish, donations may be sent to the Marilyn Blair-Proffitt memorial fund at Community First National Bank, 1130 Sheridan Ave., Cody, WY 82414. Donations will be given, in her name, to her favorite charities and organizations.
A former Powell resident, Dwayne Virgil Trees, died Wednesday, March 3 at the Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin. He was 94.
Mr. Trees has been a resident of the center at Basin since 1998.
Born in Iowa, he was 3 years old when he moved with his parents to a homestead at Wibaux, Mont. The family moved to Boyd, Mont., and he graduated from high school in Joliet, Mont.
He married Alcidene Kenyon in November 1932. They had three sons, Gene, Bill and Larry. A niece, Ellen Kenyon, lived with the family for 15 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and served for about three years. After the war, he worked for the Amoco Refinery in Greybull until it closed. He then started his own furnace and L.P. gas business in Greybull. After about four years, he sold his business to Pure Gas Service Co. of Worland, but was still involved with the company as manager. In 1970, he was transferred to Powell, and in 1972, he retired from the business.
He and his wife traveled extensively in retirement. They moved to Riverton in 1989 and then to Basin in 1998.
Survivors include his wife Alcidene Trees of Basin; one son, Bill Trees of Kinnear; one brother, Donald Trees of Reedpoint, Mont.; two grandsons and four great-granddaughters.
Graveside funeral services will be Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m. at the Joliet, Mont., Cemetery, with Pastor Richard Trees officiating. Burial will follow.
Former Powell resident John B. Cross, 83, died March 3 at West Park Hospital in Cody.
He was born March 8, 1920, on a farm in Banner County, Neb., to John Richard and Orpha Ellis (Scoville) Cross. He married Iona Mae Schindler on June 24, 1942, in Gering, Neb. They had been married 61 years at his death.
They farmed and built the Hilltop Cafe in Harrisburg, Neb., before moving to Byron in 1963. They lived on an irrigated farm on Whistle Creek south of Byron and fed cattle. They later moved to a place south of Powell, living there 24 years before moving to Cody in 1987. They have lived in Cody since that time.
Mr. Cross could be found at the Cody Nite Rodeo, rain or shine, even before he moved to Cody. This continued until recent years when his health declined.
He also enjoyed going to the senior center and playing cards, going for rides and spending time with his wife, relatives and friends. He loved his doctors and nurses. They brightened his day, and he theirs, by distributing Werthers Candies. Some even called him the Candy Man.
Survivors include his wife, Iona; daughters, Kathy and Roger Stricker and their children, Jason and Misty Stricker and Brandi and Jonathon Hinze, all of Cheyenne, Linda and David Dike of Scottsbluff, Neb., and children Tina and Calvin Ong of Mitchell, Neb., Monica and Bill Harris of Loomis, Neb., Carolyn and Nathan Jones of Rawlins and children Robert and LaDonda Conley of Jackson, Miss., Marci Conley of Rawlins and Keri Rockwell of Lincoln, Neb.; six grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren; his siblings, Jessie Hottell of Bend, Ore., Marjorie Lamm of Ralston, Bill and Joyce Cross of Belgrade, Mont., Mazie Dykes of Powell, Sylvia and Junior Soule of Harrisburg, Neb., Terry and Marilyn Cross of Powell and Sam and Irene Cross of Gillette; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was buried March 8 on his 84th birthday at Riverside Cemetery, Cody.
Funeral services will be conducted today (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. at Union Presbyterian Church for long-time area farmer, J. Frank Fales, who died Thursday, March 4 at the Powell Valley Care Center. He was 82.
Mr. Fales had been a resident of the nursing home since Jan. 14, 2004.
The Rev. David Hunter will officiate at services and burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 18, 1921, on a homestead southeast of Deaver to Carl C. and Mary J. (Heard) Fales. The family moved to Garland in the spring of 1929.
He completed the second grade in Deaver, attended two years of elementary school in Garland and then finished up his schooling in Powell, graduating with the Powell High School Class of 1939.
On Nov. 15, 1941, he married Lola M. Kirchner, and they farmed in the Garland and Powell area all of their marrfied life, almost 63 years.
He enjoyed dancing and going to the Powell Senior Center.
Survivors include his wife Lola of the family home; daughter Ruth Cook and husband Jerry of Lakewood, Colo.; son Charles Fales and wife Mimi of Liberty Hill, Texas; a brother, Heard Fales and wife Vivian of Powell; a sister, Joan Talbott and husband Bill of Yuma, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul Fales; and an infant daughter.
Pallbearers at the funeral will be Lowell Baker, Jerry Tachick, Norm Nicholls, Bill Fisher, Bill Rider and Del Karmann.

Jay Ralph Baxter, 38, of Filer, Idaho, lost his long fight against cancer on Saturday, March 6, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 1, 1965, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Albert Keith and Edna Baxter. He attended schools in Idaho and Wyoming, and graduated from Jeffrey City High School in Jeffrey City. He attended Northwest College in Powell. He worked for the Yellowstone Ranch in Sand Draw, at the Two Dot Ranch near Cody and in mining in Elko, Nev. He then moved to Buhl, Idaho, where he met and married Melissa Rhodes on Nov. 26, 1999.
Jay loved his family above all else. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed being in the outdoors. Even as his health failed, he still took his family hunting and fishing. He even taught sons Drew and Cody to become quite the experts at using their duck calls. Many cold mornings, son Bradley got up and went duck hunting with his dad.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa; children Bradley, Drew, Cody, and Katie Baxter of Filer, Idaho; daughter Jenna of Fort Collins, Colo.; his father Albert (Julie) Baxter of Cowley; his mother Edna (Lester) Morris of Elko, Nev.; his brothers, Dennis (Lori) Baxter and Edward (Amy) Baxter of Cody; sisters Loydrena (Bart) Kolacny of Powell and Christene Smith of Filer, Idaho; his stepbrother Les (Angela Morris) of Filer, Idaho; his brother, Aaron (Trish) Applehans of Wasilla, Alaska.; sister Amy (Shane) Fertig of Elko, Nev.; brother Rod Huff and sister Kathy Huff of Jerome, Idaho; and 31 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his stepfather.
A funeral will be conducted at the Filer LDS church on Friday, March 12 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Filer cemetery.
Alice Pearl Paul Gifford - March 10
Funeral services took place Wednesday, March 10 at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell for Alice Pearl Paul Gifford, 73, who died at her Powell home on Saturday, March 6.
She was born at her childhood home in Garland on March 3, 1931, the daughter of Earl and Mildred Paul.
She married Jesse James Gifford Jr. on Aug. 10, 1951, in Billings. They were married for 50 years until his death on May 12, 2002.
In addition to being an exceptional homemaker, she drove the school bus and worked in the cafeteria for the Lovell School District. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, crocheting and other craft work, as well as reading. Her favorite pastime was being with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Tom Gifford (Denice) of Basin and Todd Gifford of Casper; two daughters, Cathy Engelking (Kerry) of Casper and Penny Gifford of Powell; eight grandchildren, Valerie Gifford (Jason Caldwell) of Akiachak, Alaska., Eric Gifford (Kim) of Leavenworth, Kan., Beth Engelking of Ft. Collins, Colo., Lee Engelking of Casper, Megan Gifford of Coosbay, Ore., Luc Engelking of Casper, Kim Gifford of Casper and Josh Gifford of Powell; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Moore Gifford of Leavenworth, Kan.; two brothers, Archie Harvard and Ernie Paul; and five sisters, Ione Parkhurst, Jean Humphreys, Claire Fraatz, Dorothy Boyd and Rae Leslie.
Burial was in the Lovell Cemetery.
Ruth M. Rhiner of Cody died Saturday, March 13 at West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody at the age of 100.
She was born September 27, 1903, to Harry and Myrtle Close Lovelace in Auburn, Nebr. She was raised in Auburn and attended schools there.
She became an accomplished organist. She liked a full, manual organ and played the organ in the theater for silent movies.
She became a beautician and owned her own beauty shop in a residential hotel in Kansas City, Mo. She met her future husband, John Rhiner, there. They were married Aug. 28, 1935.
They moved from Kansas City to Worland where they lived until 1951. She played the organ for the Episcopal Church in Worland.
In 1961, they moved to Cody where they built their home. Since her husband's retirement in 1967, they have enjoyed fishing, traveling together and entertaining friends and loved ones.
She is survived by her husband, one niece and several nephews and many friends.
Jacob Henry Martinez - March 15
Memorial services were held Monday, March 15 at Moser Funeral Home in Greeley, Colo., for Jake Henry Martinez, 46, who died at his Greeley home Thursday, March 11 from liver cancer.
He was born June 29, 1957, to Hank and Rose (Benavides) Martinez. He was a life-long resident of Greeley and graduated from high school there. He served in the U.S. marine Corps.
Survivors include his mother, Rose, of Greeley; his father and stepmother, Hank and Connie Martinez of Powell; two daughters, Sandy Rose of Greeley and Monica Lopez of Kansas City, Kans.; a son, Johnathan Henry Martinez of Greeley; three sisters, Dorothy Ann Rice of Los Angeles, Calif., Rosalie Russell of Greeley, and Deanna Salzberg of New York, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.
Military honors were presented at the services by Union Colony Marines, Greeley detachment. Cremation has taken place.
Graveside services will be Friday, March 19 at 1 p.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell for Rovilla Winifred Linn Andrews, 97, formerly of Byron, who died Monday, March 15 in Billings.
She was born Nov. 20, 1906, in Sheridan to George Thomas and Lota Frances Lavering Linn. She attended school in Spearfish, S. D., and had lived in the surrounding area since 1971.
She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, cooking and sewing.
Survivors include her daughter, Audrey Drake of San Francisco, Calif.; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, three sisters and one brother.
Haskell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Michael Dean King, 37, died Thursday, March 18 at Powell Valley HealthCare Center due to cancer.
Affectionately known as Mike and Dino, he was born Jan. 2, 1967, in Wilmar, Minn., to James M. and Lillian Rozell (Cardin) King. He moved to Wyoming in 1980.
He was a self-employed carpet installer for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, ceramics and spending time with his children, family and friends.
Survivors include his mother, Lillian King of Evanston; longtime girlfriend, Wanda Vanderpool and children Ryan King, Jaymie King, JeaLinda Patton, Jolene Vanderpool and Justin Vanderpool, and step-daughter Jeanna Andrews, all of Powell; brothers, Rockie King of Gillette, James H. King of Evanston, Troy King and wife Gayla of Golden, Colo.; sisters, Tonia Genereux of Denver and Margaret (Gina) Perks of Evanston.
His father, James M. King, and his grandparents preceded him in death.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be Thursday, March 25 at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Powell.

Marcella D. Roche, 78, formerly of Lovell, died March 18 at her home in Puyallup, Wash.
She was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Mary and James Dwyer. She was the second of seven children -- one boy and six girls.
She married Rocky Roche in Minneapolis Sept. 20, 1947. They moved to Lovell in 1950 making their home and raising a family of three girls, Mary, Irene and Betty.
She developed many talents throughout her life including journalist/editor, radio announcer, TV sales, spiritual counselor, artist, lecturer/teacher, and psychotherapist. However, the most powerful drive in her life was her Irish heritage and her faith. She was a practicing Benedictine Oblate for many years.
In 1998, the Roches moved to Puyallup, Wash., to be near their daughter, Mary. She also enjoyed gardening, reading and making friends.
Her family and friends will miss her laughter, kindness, wit, and love, taking comfort in the belief she went right to an Irish celebration in heaven with those who preceded her.
Her devoted husband, Rocky; daughters, Mary, Irene and Betty, 10 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren survive her.
Funeral services were held Monday March 22, with burial in Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash.
Shirley Ellen Halsey - March 19
Shirley Ellen Halsey, 71, died Friday, March 19 at her home in Evanston.
She was born April 16, 1932, in Moorefield, Neb., to John Lew Wood and Eunice Delcie Warner. She was raised on a farm, and at the age of 7, drought forced her family from the farm.
They relocated to Powell where she graduated from Powell High School in 1949.
On June 4, 1953, she married Jessie Robinson and had three sons. They divorced in 1962. She married Russell Halsey in June 1973 in Evanston. The couple moved to Rock Springs in 1975.
She worked for Red Horse Oil for many years at the Get-N-Go store on Elk Street in Rock Springs. She was robbed at gun point twice while at work.
The love of family and friends was her most prized possession. Her 50-year class reunion was a highlight of her life.
Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church and lived a Christian life, reflected in the poetry she loved to write. She had several poems published.
She loved holidays, Christmas cards, to cook for family and lilacs.
She is survived by sons Mark L. (Cindy) Boyd, John D. and Marvin D. Robinson, all of Evanston; grandchildren Barry Speicher, J.J.Boyd, Bonnie Mae Boyd, Amy (Travis) Klein, Mandy (David) Nichols, and Jeff Robinson; and great-grandchildren Robert Nichols, Lyric Nichols, Chelena Speicher, Adaisia Speicher and Davis Robinson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will take place Thursday, March 25 at 11 a.m. at Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston. Viewing will be Wednesday March 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will follow in the Evanston Cemetery.

Marie Guthrie, 69, who died Saturday, March 20 at her Powell home after a short, but courageous struggle with pancreatic cancer. Pastor Timothy Klug will officiate at memorial services. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell. She was born June 18, 1934, in Powell to Henry and Rena (Spinney) Baird at their home on June 18, 1934 in Powell. She was raised in the community and attended Powell schools. She married Art Guthrie on Dec. 2, 1951. Four children were born to this union: Linda, Jerry, Rick and Brenda. Art and Marie remained in Powell until employment with Marathon Oil Company transferred them to Casper in 1980, then to Cody in 1985. They lived in Cody until returning to Powell in 1996. They traveled in their retirement years and enjoyed the many places they visited. Her husband died in October, 1996. She loved the Lord and was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cody. She was also a member of her church's Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the VFW Auxiliary. She loved her family and thoroughly enjoyed being around her eight ghrandchildren. Her hobbies included quilting, crocheting, knitting and cross stitch embroidery. Survivors include her children, their spouses and grandchildren: Linda (Larry) Kloster and sons Ryan and Kyle of Casper, Jerry (Kathy) Guthrie and daughter Kali of Midland, Texas; Rick (Deanna) Guthrie and children Megan, Corey, Travis and Sheana of Meeteetse, and Brenda Hewitt and daughter Kelsey of Casper; her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Barbara Baird, of Tulsa, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Art; her parents, Hank and Rena Baird; her sister, Estella (Dodie) Howard; and her brother, Bob Baird. Stanford Dewitt Buntin - March 26
Word has been received of the March 26 death in Schell City, Mo., of former Powell resident Stanford Dewitt Buntin, 74. He was the oldest son of Jerome and Enolia A. (Reinbold) Buntin, born Jan. 21, 1930, in Palestine, Ill.
Early in his life, he moved with his family to the Schell City area and attended Flat Rock School. Later the family relocated to Powell where he graduated from high school in 1948.
He worked in the family's business, Buntin's Recreation Parlor, on Powell's Bent Street. In 1999, he sold the business and moved back to Schell City to enjoy retirement. He served as secretary of Community Betterment there.
Graveside services were held March 29 at the Green Lawn Cemetery, Schell City.
Thelma I. "Tomie" Lungren, 75, of Powell died at Powell Hospital on Thursday, March 25.
She was born Sept. 7, 1928 in Lander to Verne L. and Mary I. (Clark) McLane.
Mrs. Lungren married John Harold Lungren, Jr., in Worland on April 25, 1948.
She was raised in Worland and graduated from Washakie County High School in 1946. She worked for Van's Food Market for several years before taking time out to raise her family. She returned to work in 1958 for PureGro Fertilizer Co., retiring in 1992.
In September 2001, she and her sister Dorothy moved to Powell to be near Tomie's daughter.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Worland Eagles Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler who also enjoyed crocheting and being with her grandkids.
She is survived by daughters Lynn Ellen (Lynn) Bebee of Omaha, Neb., and twin daughters Kathy M. (Brian) Blane of Parker, Colo., and Kristy M (Berton) Agee of Powell; brother Richard V. (Yvonne) McLane of Cheyenne; sisters Dorothy Tidemann of Powell and Shirley (Clare) Weber of Sheridan; grandchildren Darcy Terry, Shanna Blane and Kailee Blane all of Parker, Colo., and Seth Agee of Powell; great grandchildren Dominik John Blane of Parker, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Lungren was preceded in death by her husband in 1982 and by her parents and in-laws John and Louise Lungren.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service was held March 30 at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland with the Rev. L.E. "Bud" Surles officiating.

Memorial services for Ann Beatrice Lovercheck, 90, will be held at a later date at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home with interment at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Lovercheck died March 28 at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 16, 1913 in Stoutland, Mo., to Harry Parker and Ada (Boystun) Bell. The family moved to Yuma, Ariz., where she completed her education, graduating valedictorian of her class.
While visiting in Buckland, Mo., she met and married Verne Layfayette Fields Dec. 24, 1933. They traveled through many western states while he worked for Service Pipeline and finally settled in Elk Basin in 1955. Verne preceded her in death in 1959.
Ann worked at Elders Hardware, Chuck's Modern Electric and Kopriva's Hardware stores in Powell, retiring in 1977.
She married Corrie E. Lovercheck in 1962. He preceded her in death in 1999.
She was active in First Baptist Church, Eastern Star, Rebekahs, Modern Home Club and many other activities in the community. She was recently a resident of the Wyoming Pioneer Home.
Survivors included three stepchildren: Corrie L. Lovercheck of Jackson, Lawrence Lovercheck of Palo Alto, Calif., and Joyce Kelley of Thermopolis; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Mary Lovercheck Randolph of DeSota, Texas; and a host of friends.

Lydia M. Aman, 91, died at the Powell Valley Healthcare Center on Tuesday morning, March 30.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1912, in Ellendale, N.D., to Fred and Pauline (Schumacher) Fetzer. She married Balthasar Aman on March 7, 1931 in Ipswich, S.D.
In 1956 the family moved to Powell. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1968. Cream of the Valley Dairy employed her for more than 22 years, serving in many areas of the dairy business during the processing, pasteurization and packaging of dairy products.
She loved to crochet and garden. She was a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Two years ago she moved into the Heartland Assisted Living Complex and enjoyed her new surroundings.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Della and Clifford Reidt of Powell; six grandchildren, Richelle Fowler, Jill Barber, Craig Reidt, Linden Reidt, Fay Reidt and Craig Aman; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, sons Darvie Aman and Orlo Aman; brothers Fred Fetzer and Wilbur Fetzer and a sister, Adelia Haack, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Donald Rieman officiating. Pallbearers will be Darren Reidt, Randy Lightholt, Patrick Nicholson, Bill Christensen, Craig Aman and Dean Schumacher. Honorary pallbearers will be Craig Reidt, Linden Reidt and Fay Reidt.
Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Martha L. Brandes died Tuesday, March 30, in Bothell, Wash. She was 94.
Born in Lamona, Wash., on Nov. 1, 1909, she is survived by her son, John Brandes and his wife, Helen, of Powell; her daughter, Martha Ellsworth and her husband, Ray, of Tacoma, Wash.; her granddaughter, Leona Brandes Smith and her husband Garry Smith of Bothell; one sister, Ruth Koss of Everett, Wash., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Conrad Hereth and Mrs. Martha Senne Hereth Luiten and four of her five sisters, Lydia Hereth, Esther Simpson, Lois Wisman and Marie Schatz, and two granddaughters, Donna Jean and Lynn Marie Franks. She had wonderful memories of the years her family spent in Corvallis, Ore., while her father served Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and attended Oregon State University (1910 to 1918). She cherished her time traipsing across the campus through the fall leaves with her father while he practiced his sermons. She became a nurse, graduating from the School of Nursing, General Hospital of Everett in 1931. Her nursing assignments included several years at the Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood and at Ballard Hospital in Seattle, from which she retired in 1971.
She loved her family, baking pies, church activities and traveling. In 1974, she traveled to Scotland to visit her niece and in 1983, to Okinawa, Japan, to visit her granddaughter. She dearly loved flowers and was fascinated by botany and the miracle of God's creation. Martha was a resident of the Rocky Mountain Manor and member of Immanuel Lutheran Church here in Powell from 1997-2002. During her time in Wyoming, she grew to love the fiery sunsets she could see outside her window and became a beloved part of the Bessler family through her daughter-in-law, Helen Bessler Brandes. She gardened well past her 90th year and could still play songs she learned on the piano when she was a young girl, completed crossword puzzles up until recently, and loved to laugh. She was a lifelong Christian who worshipped in the Lutheran Church and everywhere she went. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 8 at 4 p.m., Zion Lutheran Church Snohomish, Wash.
Betty June Cline, 65, died suddenly at her home in the Pryors near Bridger, Mont., on March 30.
She was born May 19, 1938 in Sheridan, Mo.
Her parents were Everett and Doris Miller of Maryville, Mo. After graduating from high school in Pickering, Mo., in 1956, she attended Gard Business School in St. Joseph, Mo., for two years. She then worked at the Robey Insurance Agency of Maryville as a secretary.
On April 2, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, Gary Cline in Pickering.
She enjoyed playing basketball in her youth, playing all four years of high school. After her marriage, she continued to play on the town team. She won several trophies for playing basketball and later won a couple of bowling trophies. She loved to play cards, doing cross stitch and crocheting. She also enjoyed fishing, camping and being outdoors taking care of her flowers and hummingbirds.
She was a "natural" grandma. Whether they were actually hers or not, she could handle just about any child. She enjoyed her family and friends and was a giving and loving person. She was greatly loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband Gary Cline of the family home; children Christina (Ed) Denney of Clark, Mark (Patty) Cline of Frannie, brother Jim (Sharon) Miller of Sheridan, Mo.; sisters Judy (George) Knapple of Wichita, Kan., Joyce Brown of Albany, Mo., Janet (Rod) Shell of Savannah, Mo.; grandchildren Adam Denney, Dustin Stemmen and Brittany Stemmen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Bennett Creek Church in Clark. Interment was in in Bennet Creek Cemetery.
