After a trickle at the start, the filing period for the primary election closed with a flood of candidates.

Nine Republicans have entered the battle for three Park County Commission seats, three law enforcement professionals will compete to be Park County sheriff, another three contenders are in the mix for Park County clerk and a trio of local legislators have drawn challengers in the Republican primary.

Powell police are asking the community for help to find a man who reportedly tried to abduct a pair of 12-year-old girls on Wednesday night. Police and school officials are also urging parents to be alert and to review safety measures with their children in the wake of the incident.

Powell and Cody school board members, Gov. Matt Mead and state education officials agree: The state of Wyoming must pick up the tab for educating the children living in the northern portion of Yellowstone National Park.

Park County officials, however, aren’t quite convinced.

A Park County trial for a former Powell police officer accused of an on-duty sex crime in 2011 is on hold while he’s jailed on newly reported allegations in Wisconsin.

Searchers found the wreckage of a private plane on a North Fork mountain Monday morning and the two occupants are presumed to be dead.

The plane carrying pilot Robert L. Zimmerman, 84, of Huntsville, Ala., and his 86-year-old brother, Ward H. Zimmerman of Seattle, is believed to have crashed on May 6 as they attempted to fly from Cody to Twin Falls, Idaho.

Dangerous avalanche conditions put a crimp in the opening day of the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park .

Yellowstone officials temporarily closed the east gate for roughly three hours on Friday because of "avalanche activity" in Sylvan Pass, a few miles inside the park's eastern boundary. Travelers should call 307-344-2117 for updates on the road's status.

Plans for a new multi-use facility at the Park County Fairgrounds are coming into a sharper focus.

The Park County Commission on Tuesday gave its stamp of approval to a preliminary vision for the $2.6 million building that was presented by Plan One Architects.

Prosecutors say no criminal charges will be filed in connection with a Northwest College student’s fatal fall from a Denver hotel balcony last month.

The Wyoming Supreme Court has clarified Park County Attorney Bryan Skoric’s job description — saying he needs to take a leading role in protecting the safety and rights of mentally ill patients held against their will.

The best place for a new multi-use facility at the Park County Fairgrounds is right on top of the old exhibit halls it will replace, county officials decided last week.

The spot “gives you something right in the heart” of the grounds, Plan One Architects Vice President Dan Odasz told Park County commissioners, fair board members and staff on April 1.
