Powell High School’s girls basketball team will have a bit of an unusual edge in this weekend’s Class 3A West regional tournament: they’ll be playing in their own gym.

For the first time since 2005, Powell is hosting the conference tournament.

The conference’s top and last-place teams came to the Lady Panthers’ gym last weekend and the Powell High School girls exacted some revenge on each.

PHS’ basketball team took down Class 3A West leader Lyman 42-39 on Friday, then beat Mountain View 35-31 on Saturday.

Partnering with other groups

Rather than act as a lone wolf, Park County is joining a pack of sportsmen, agricultural and local government groups to support Wyoming’s wolf management plan in federal court.

In past litigation over the management of the controversial predator, Park County acted independently, having the Park County Attorney’s Office represent its unique interests as home to the bulk of the state-managed wolves.

It’s only good news for now

Park County commissioners’ lack of faith in the federal government appears to have paid off in a big way this week.

Unsure the government would continue writing checks to Park County, commissioners had budgeted last summer for a big drop in annual federal payments known as Secure Rural Schools funding.
