Evelyn Lorene Sparks, 96, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the Powell Valley Care Center after having been a resident for a few months. Prior to that, she resided at The Heartland assisted living center in Powell for six years.

After a brief battle with cancer, Mary Lou (Baker) McCown died Friday, March 29, 2013, in Poulsbo, Wash., where she lived for the last 17 years. She was 74.
Mary Lou was born Feb. 20, 1939, in Cameron, Mo., the middle of the 11 children of Wayne and Anna Mary Baker. She graduated from Powell High School in 1957 and returned to Powell after living in Soldotna, Alaska for more than 20 years.
