Pioneers snap skid on Senior Night

At least they ended on a high note.

The Powell Pioneers broke an eight-game losing streak on the season’s final day with an 8-2 home victory against the Miles City Outlaws.

Tremendous outpouring of support for late football coach and his family  

The Powell Panthers football team has enjoyed two straight undefeated seasons, but it was dealt an unimaginable loss Friday morning.

Panthers football coach and PHS teacher Jim Stringer died from an apparent pulmonary cardiac arrest suffered around 11:05 a.m. at his home on Lane 9 1/2 in rural Powell. Stringer was taken by ambulance to Powell Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Park County Coroner Tim Power. Stringer was 44.

Montana Shakespeare in the Park to perform ‘Romeo and Juliet’ in Powell Monday

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks is in the midst of its 42nd season of providing free professional theatrical productions throughout Montana and four neighboring states. MSIP will produce two of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays: “As You Like It” and “Romeo and Juliet.” The summer season, which began June 18 with eight performances in Bozeman, Mont., hit the road on June 30 and will include 75 performances in 61 communities prior to its conclusion on Sept. 7.

A mudslide east of Pahaska Tepee closed the road to Yellowstone National Park’s East Gate for hours Tuesday afternoon and night.

Heavy rain and hail triggered the slide just east of Eagle Creek Campground on U.S. 14-16-20.
