The 2008 portion of the Powell High School girls basketball season ended on a good note, even if it was a bit premature.

On Friday night, in their first home game of the year, the girls doubled up the Buffalo Lady Bison, 42-21.

“Overall, I thought it was a great team win, and it is always nice to have a win before you take the long Christmas break,” said PHS head coach Luke Danforth.

A Saturday match-up with the Thermopolis Lady Bobcats was canceled for weather-related reasons.

The Buffalo victory put the Lady Panthers' record at 5-1 going into the break.

“I thought the girls played well, especially defensively,” said Coach Danforth.

The team stifled the Lady Bison offensive, helping to hold them to 21 percent shooting from the floor.

“I thought we applied great perimeter pressure from our defense, which made it difficult for the Lady Bison to find many open, outside shots,” the coach said.

Coach Danforth added that on offense, the Lady Panthers had a bit of a tough time with Buffalo's speed and in running an up-tempo attack. The squad had 26 turnovers to the Bison's 20.
