Wyoming Democrats find themselves at historic low point

Written by Tom Lawrence

It seemed to be a simple request: We asked for a photo of Charlie Hardy, the freshly announced Democratic candidate for Wyoming’s Senate seat now held by Sen. Mike Enzi.

No photos were available on his campaign website Wednesday morning, but we wanted to run a photo with the story about the launch of his campaign. More than 11 hours later, well past our deadline, it showed up in my email.

Maybe someone borrowed the Democrats’ camera.

The intent of this is not to poke fun at the Wyoming Democratic Party. It’s just plain wrong to kick someone when they’re down, and these folks are down deep, and lack the staff and resources for even basics like providing the media with a photo.

We’re glad to see Hardy enter the race, and wish him all the luck in the world. He will need it against Enzi, a popular three-term incumbent with more than $1.8 million in the bank and a proven record at the polls.

Frankly, Hardy will almost need a miracle just to run a competitive race. He’s a former Catholic priest, so perhaps he can pull some strings.

If Hardy would somehow win, it might be seen as an act of God. The acts, and votes, of Wyoming residents suggest the Republican Party has little to worry about.

The Senate seat Enzi holds has been in GOP hands since 1963. The state last elected a Democratic senator in 1970, when Gale McGee was successful. Teno Roncalio, who resigned in 1978, is the last Democrat to hold the state’s U.S. House seat.

It’s the same story in the Legislature, with Republicans controlling the state House since 1966 and the state Senate since 1938.

The only major office the Democrats have had success at is in the governor’s chair, where they have nearly split elections. Republicans have served in office just slightly more than 50 percent of the time since statehood, and Democrat Dave Freudenthal wrapped up eight years as governor in 2011.

However, recent election results have been striking.

In 2012, Sen. John Barrasso, a Republican, defeated Democrat Tim Chestnut 185,250 to 53,019 while Rep. Cynthia Lummis, also a Republican, overwhelmed Democrat Chris Henrichsen 166,452-57,573.

In 2010, Lummis defeated her opponent, David Wendt, by more than 85,000 votes, while Republican Matt Mead was elected governor by nearly 80,000 votes.

Simply put, the Wyoming Democratic Party has been unable to mount competitive campaigns. It shows little sign of being able to do so this year, with no candidates so far for the House seat, governor and other statewide offices.

While running with a D behind your name has always been a tough task in Wyoming, there are issues that might favor the party. It could call for an increased minimum wage, continue to fight for an expansion of Medicare and call for a fair break for the working class.

Democrats could work to register younger voters, who may favor it, and reach out to disaffected people in small communities who may be open to a party that wants to help them and speak up on their behalf.

The party also needs to raise money, recruit attractive, qualified candidates and convince voters it has something to contribute to the public dialogue. But it’s difficult to focus on that when the party seems unable to do the smallest things, like providing the media with a photo of the man it thinks should serve in the U.S. Senate.

Get the picture?

Democrats don't stand a chance in Wyoming when most of the RINO's are brainwashed by the likes of Limbaugh,Hannity and Coulter, along with the tea baggers who are dead set on the destruction of the working class.Karma is a _____ and you will reap what you sow.

With people such as yourself writing negative stories. When the ____ hits the fan, as it will, you will change your tune. The GOP has no other goal then to destroy Americas working class poor and to remake The Government with there own archaic and backward ways. It sickens me that the Republican party has turned Americans against the people in need in our own country. Yeah God bless America as long as you bow down to the tyrannical Republican agenda. The Bible says to help your neighbor in need, not line your pockets with greed.

@ Salty Dawg... Democrats stand no chance, because the term Democrat now translates automatically (to those left with any common sense) to Communist / Socialist / Fascist due to our HORRIBLE president, his endless stream of lies his propaganda machine (CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS etc) perpetuates to and uneducated / ignorant American public. (He who controls the media, controls the mind of the masses. -Malcome X).

As for the RINOs we always here you rant about, you must look at America, and the American voter. Unemployment is way above the 7 or so percent advertised by the propaganda machines. Republicans want to be re-elected too, so they see the trend in America, that trend pushed towards the American voters (47 million of which are on food stamps) "give me unemployment / food stamps / welfare / etc”. Does that make the Republican Party right? I cannot answer that, because I have been serving my nation overseas for all my adult life. A soldier has the advantage of being able to look his enemy in the eye.

The true breeding ground for today's Democrat (i.e. Socialist / Communist / Fascist) is in our school systems, and what our kids watch on TV. So, these venues / institutions are now over-run with the anti-American, Americans. Read the latest news about how recently a school did not allow American children to celebrate America. That leads me to the 2nd Amendment, which is the only true right an American citizen has, and your Socialist / Communist / Fascist Democratic party leads the league in trying to get rid of this right. See, Stalin, Hitler & Obama are just a different form of the same end-state… Socialism. Marxist Socialism, Fascist Socialism, or Democratic Socialism, it is still Socialism. And Socialism eventually runs out of other people’s money to spend.

Your debate is entirely too one sidedness, therefore we see you too are a cheerleader for Socialism. Please opine about the left's brainwashing via, Obama, Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews and a host of other Fascist cheerleaders for the false messiah who sits in the White House, draws a nice salary, and whose overall goal is to destroy America, using the IRS, NSA, & Justice Department to target the liberal enemy, which is not so much a person, but whose target is the facts.

If men like you had filled the ranks of our WWII Armies, Fascism would have easily won. Thank god you and your ilk do not serve in our nation’s Armed Forces. We’d be a 3rd world country.

Chris, where is your proof that the Democrat party is Communist and fascist? You throw a lot of allegations out there with no proof. And as far as the Democrat party,I say the GOp is no better, worse if anything since they want to do noting but stand in the way of progress, and are nothing more than one sided obstructionists hell bent on taking over this once great nation with their phony style of lying politics. No wonder America is in the dog house, just look at the last POTUS and his administrations failure in Iraq.My debate is no more one sided than yours and I really doubt any of you RINO's can stand the truth, especially about your failed party.

This article was designed to provoke a response and it was very successful, people with a “D” by their name attacking people with an “R” behind their names and Vice Versa.

Folks, while we squabble over the consonants “D” and “R”, our freedoms evaporate.

@ Salty Dawg... A. George Bush was 2 Presidential Elections ago & you Socialists still blame him to cover up your embarrassment that is the Messiah Obama. B. Look at the genius of the Iraq War. It started the collapse of the Middle East ! Iraq will never be a threat, except to themselves, because the Kurds own the North, The Sunnis own the center, and the Shia own the south of the country. Syria collapsed, Egypt & Libya collapsed into civil war... and guess what, the shale oil deposits we found in the 70s here in America, we now finally have the technology to extract those gas & oil deposits & become a whole lot more energy independent (the only obstacle we have to this great feat is you & the Socialists / Communists / Fascists of American. Look past the WMD excuse. I work in the intel field my man, I can manipulate any data and sell it as correct, to ANY commander !! Our CIA did just that, both in Iraq & Afghanistan. War is business my man, BIG BUSINESS !! Google every Defense Contractor. You will find its CEO & board members are the whose who of the demokratik or RINO parties. Like it or not, the invasion of Iraq by the USA was a victory. You just have to see past the messenger (the liberal media). I lived it for 3 years my man. You didn't!! Also, here is a list of all the Demokratik Socialist Senators who voted for George Bush to go to war in Iraq:
    Bayh (D-IN)
    Biden (D-DE)
    Breaux (D-LA)
    Cantwell (D-WA)
    Carnahan (D-MO)
    Carper (D-DE)
    Cleland (D-GA)
    Clinton (D-NY)
    Daschle (D-SD)
    Dodd (D-CT)
    Dorgan (D-ND)
    Edwards (D-NC)
    Feinstein (D-CA)
    Harkin (D-IA) Hollings (D-SC)
    Johnson (D-SD)
    Kerry (D-MA)
    Kohl (D-WI)
    Landrieu (D-LA)
    Lieberman (D-CT)
    Lincoln (D-AR)
    Miller (D-GA)
    Nelson (D-FL)
    Nelson (D-NE)
    Reid (D-NV)
    Rockefeller (D-WV)
    Schumer (D-NY)
    Torricelli (D-NJ)

Man Salty Dawg, what is it like living in a glass house, and throwing stones ? You want to blame someone for the war in Iraq? Look to Israel. They were the true winners.

@ Salty Dawg... you asked me a question, and thank goodness one never has to travel too far back into current events to prove Democrats are now Socialists / Communists / Fascists, and in short supply in Wyoming.

"Chris, where is your proof that the Democrat party is Communist and fascist"?

My Proof: President Obama has directed his FCC to monitor what goes into news. I mean, that is right out of the Fascist playbook. I don't know if you remember or not, but once upon a time there was a Fascist Socialist named Adolf Hitler. He took over a vulnerable nation (Germany) and used the media and public events to sway an ignorant / uninformed public into blaming the Jews for all of Germany's woes. Obama has several similarities to Adolf Hitler, he too took over a vulnerable nation, by making promises he never intended to keep, by blaming all of America’s woes on George Bush, Halliburton, Dick Cheney & conservatives / religious folks. Obama, like Hitler, uses his platform & vast media propaganda machine, against an ignorant & uninformed American public that conservatives want to kill babies, drink dirty water, breathe dirty air, and club baby fur seals to death (let's face it, give your typical stupid American a reality show like American idle, and their brains turn off). Say the above stated lies enough times on TV, and ignorant & uninformed American people will take it as gospel. I mean, look at you. You probably had no idea 60% of the vote to authorize the President of the United States to go to war with Iraq came from Democrats. As you see above, Hillary & Kerry voted for the war, then when the media made it unpopular (in order to undermine and vilify a conservative President), they reversed their thought processes, and became vocal critics of the war. let's face it, America wanted a fight after 9/11, and it didn't really matter who was gonna be on the receiving end of our violence of action.

Now you know why Democrats, such as yourself are in short supply in WY, as well as utilize pen names, to hide behind their shame of being manipulated by something as simple as a Socialist / Communist / Fascist drink of Kool-Aid.

Salty Dawg, if this were Tennis, I would simply state Game, Set, Match.
