Mildred L. Barnes, 84, of Ralston, died Thursday, Dec. 1 at the New Horizons
Care Center in Lovell.
She was born on June 9, 1921, in Colorado. She grew up in southeast Colorado
but moved to southeast Kansas to live with her sister, Opal, during her high
school years. It was in Kansas where she met and married Harold L. Barnes.
They moved to Powell in 1945.
Survivors include four sons, Phil and wife Sheryl, and two grandchildren, Michael
and Steven, of Manhattan, Kans.; John and wife Rita, and two grandchildren,
Joe and Travis, and one great-grandchild, Anthony, of Cheyenne; Jerry and wife
Bonnie of Vernal, Utah; and Don of Ralston. She is also survived by her sister,
Opal, of Gerard, Kans., and one brother, Willard, of Rangley, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold L. Barnes.
The memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday,
Dec. 8 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Powell. Cremation has taken place. Friends
may contribute to the Ronald McDonald House in Billings, Mont., in her memory.
Rula Crosby Johnson - December 3, 2005
Funeral services are scheduled today (Thursday, Dec. 8) at the LDS Byron Ward
Chapel at 11 a.m. for Rula Crosby Johnson, who died Saturday, Dec. 3 in Salt
Lake City, Utah. She was 90. Burial will be in the Cowley Cemetery. She was
born Nov. 2, 1915, in Cowley to Rulon and Abigail Lindsay Crosby. She grew
up in Cowley and graduated from high school there and later attended Billings
Business College.
She married Milas R. Johnson Sept. 4, 1937. They lived most of their married
life on a farm southwest of Byron. They were later sealed in the LDS temple
in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1999.
She is survived by her daughter Gail Jones (Wayne) of Salt Lake City, Utah;
two sons, Edd (Carla) of Sandy, Utah and Michael (Anne) of Casper; 10 grandchildren,
21 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter; one sister, Ramona Policky
of Rapid City, S.D.; and many nieces and
nephews.
Rula was active in the LDS church and served in many callings over the years.
She was also supportive of all her children and grandchildren’s school
and many other activities. She and Milas were fondly called Granny Cookie and
Boppa Candy by their grandchildren and the many children they knew. She was
an accomplished seamstress and quilter and many people have benefited from
her talents.
Milas and Rula lived in Wyoming for many years and wanted to live there forever,
but due to their health they moved to Salt Lake City in 1995 to be close to
their two children, Gail and Edd and their families.

Evelyn L. Petty - December 3, 2005
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 3 for former Powell High School
teacher, Evelyn L. Petty, 80, who died Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Liberty Hospital
in Liberty, Mo.
She was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Liberty, Mo., daughter of Irwin and Bert Munkirs
Petty. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from William Jewell
College in 1945 with a bachelor’s degree in education.
She began her high school teaching career in Kansas. Later, she taught in Wyoming
at Jackson and then in Powell where she taught for 34 years. She retired in
1990 and returned to the family farm where she was born.
She had a love for learning and spent many hours at the Clay County Archives
and Historical Library where she was a member.
Miss Petty was a member of the Wyoming Education Association and the Mt. Olivet
Christian Church.
She is survived by a brother, Harold Petty of the family home.
Samuel S. Scruggs - December 3, 2005
Funeral services were held at the First Southern Baptist Church in Powell
on Saturday, Dec. 3 for Samuel Sherrod Scruggs, 81, Cody, who died Wednesday,
Nov. 30 in Greeley, Colo.
Born in Jacksonville, Texas, on Dec. 13, 1923, he was the fifth of 10 children
of A.T. and Luetta (Powers) Scruggs. He was working on a seismograph crew which
brought him to Wyoming where he met his future wife, Ann Moore. They were married
in Denver, Colo., on Sept. 25, 1946.
He later went to work for Ohio Oil Company (which became Marathon) where he
was employed for 36 years in various positions.
Never at a loss for words and a stranger to no one, he loved to share the plan
of salvation with most all he met. Sam served as a deacon and trustee of the
First Baptist Church, the First Southern Baptist Church of Powell and the Rock
River (Wyo.) Baptist Church.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, thus Wyoming became his beloved home.
He could tell you exactly where he had downed his game and caught which fish,
because he knew the mountains, lakes and rivers that well.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ann (Moore) Scruggs of Cody, now living
in Greeley, Colo.; two daughters, Doryea (Fred) Gibbs of Eaton, Colo., and
Marsha Scruggs of Greeley; two sons, Sam (Rebecca) Scruggs of Hubbard, Ore.,
and Mark (Joyce) Scruggs of Powell; grandchildren Anissa (Matt) Bree of Cody,
Derek (Joan) Jackson of Severance, Colo., Amaris (Darick) Schneider of Eaton,
Colo., Leslie Scruggs of Hubbard, Ore., Lori (Noe) Zuniga of Temecula, Calif.,
Tyler Scruggs of Cody; and Matthew Scruggs of Powell; nine great-grandchildren;
and five brothers, Alfred, Frank Loy, Coy and LC, all of Texas.
Burial was in Powell’s Crown Hill Cemetery.

Rula Crosby Johnson - December 3, 2005
Rula Crosby Johnson, 90, died Saturday, Dec. 3 at Avalon Rehabilitation Center
in Salt Lake City, Utah, of natural causes.
She was born Nov. 2, 1915 in Cowley to Rulon and Abigail Lindsay Crosby.
She married Milas R. Johnson Sept. 4, 1937, and they spent their married life
on their farm west of Byron.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail Jones (Wayne) of Salt Lake City; two
sons Edd ( Carla) of Sandy, Utah, and Michael (Anne) of Casper.
Funeral services will be held at the Byron Ward Chapel Thursday, Dec. 8 at
11 a.m. Burial will be in the Cowley Cemetery.
Curtis Buckingham - December 5, 2005
Funeral services were held at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody Monday, Dec. 5
for Curtis Buckingham, 93, Cody, who died Thursday, Dec. 1 at the Powell Hospital
after a short illness.
He was born June 22, 1912, at the Buckingham Ranch on Bear Creek near Story,
Wyo. He was the son of Joseph and Mabel (Todd) Buckingham.
He graduated from Buffalo High School and spent his early years in the Story-Buffalo
areas. In Story, he met Claudine Mitchum, a school teacher, and they were married
in Hardin, Mont., on Jan. 7, 1939.
Curtis worked at various ranches in the Buffalo, Sheridan, Glenrock and Cody
areas. In November, 1957, he and Claudine bought the D&C Service Station
with their good friends, Dick and Pat Way. They operated the Texaco station
until Curtis retired in June of 1976. Many friendships were formed while the
Buckinghams and the Ways operated the D&C Texaco Station.
After retirement, he took up the game of golf and enjoyed playing golf with
his friends. He also enjoyed the afternoon card games at the Elks Club.
His grandsons, Jeff and Scott, were the joy of his life. He taught them to
play cribbage and loved to hunt and fish with them. He was a life member of
the Cody Elks.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Judi Buckingham of
Powell; two grandsons, Jeff (Tami) Buckingham of Boise, Idaho, and Scott Buckingham
of Casper; his sister, Della McLaughlin of Texas; a special niece, Janice Kraft
of Powell; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Caludine, in December of 1999; brothers
Frederic, Milo and Mervin Buckingham; and a sister, Gyla Buckingham.

Flossie Pearl Dowty – December 5, 2005
Flossie Dowty died Monday, Dec. 5 at Powell Nursing Home. She was 99.
Born to William and Emma Scoville in Riley, Alberta, Canada, on Sept. 9, 1906, she was the last of six children. The family moved back to Nebraska by covered wagon when Flossie was 4. They stopped in Helena, Mont., for the winter for her brother Bud to recover from typhoid fever.
The journey began again to Nebraska, ending at the family homestead in Banner County. Flossie grew up there, attending school at Twin Tree School House and working on the family farm. She met her husband, Robert Louis Wensky, and they were married in April of 1929 and made their home in Harrisburg, Neb. They had four children.
Flossie operated a small restaurant until moving to Cheyenne in 1939. She always enjoyed working on the farm, doing leatherwork, raising a garden and painting. She was widowed in July of 1947 and continued to raise and support her family. In 1963, the family moved to Powell to operate farms that were owned by her son Robert.
In 1970, she married Tom Dowty and moved to Deaver, where she continued to enjoy her chickens, cows, garden and farming. Her door was always open to a good visit and a home-cooked meal. She loved having her family around her for big dinners, birthday parties and all the holidays. Tom passed away in 1986 and Flossie continued to work on the farm until moving into the Powell Nursing Home in 1994.
Flossie was the last survivor of her family, being preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. She is survived by four children, Robert (Ann) Wensky, Frank (Miriam) Wensky, Ralph (Betty) Wensky, and Charlene (Robert) Goodwill; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Thompson Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. Graveside services will follow at the Deaver Cemetery.
Clarence (Casey) Jones - December 7, 2005
Clarence (Casey) Burleigh Jones, 69, died at Powell Valley Healthcare Wednesday,
Dec. 7.
He was born near Bear Creek, Mont., on Oct. 24, 1936, to Edward and Vera Dean
(Bruce) Jones. He spent most of his life in the Penrose area working on farms.
He was a hard worker, loved his family and was devoted to his small group of
friends.
Survivors include his two sons, Kevin Jones of Powell and Bruce Jones of Oregon;
a sister, Lucille Smith of Powell; and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces
and grand nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Charlotte Jones; and a
brother, Bill Jones.
Respecting his wishes, cremation has taken place, and private family services
will be held. Ballard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Geradine J. Caughran - December 7, 2005
Graveside services are scheduled today (Tuesday) at 1 p.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery
in Powell for Geraldine J. Caughran, who died Wednesday, Dec. 7 at Applewood
Living Center in Longmont, Colo. She was 79.
She was born March 24, 1926, in Eldorado, Kans., to Arvel and Letha (Wyman)
Crumrine. She spent her early life in Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming.
She married Herman Caughran in 1952. She worked for 30 years as a bus depot
agent and a hotel manager in Thermopolis. She moved to Longmont, Colo., from
Thermopolis in 2003.
She was a long-time member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Thermopolis. She enjoyed
sewing and embroidery.
Survivors include two sons, Max Crumrine and his wife Pat of Lovell and Rex
Crumrine and his wife Diane of Yakima, Wash.; a daughter, Christine Donaldson
and her husband Russ of Longmont, Colo.; a brother, Kenneth Crumrine of Thermopolis;
three grandchildren, a step-grandson and eight great-grandchildren.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 9 in Longmont. Thompson Funeral Home
of Powell is in charge of local arrangements.
Peggy Ferguson - December 7, 2005
Lena M. (Peggy) Vincent Ferguson, 92, died Dec. 7 at the Bonnie Bluejacket
Nursing Home in Basin.
She was born Jan. 7, 1913, in Claremore, Okla. After being reared in Miami,
Okla., she moved to Tulsa where she met and married Haskell Ferguson in 1943.
They moved to Ore City, Texas in 1964.
From 1996 to 2002, she was a resident of the Rocky Mountain Manor retirement
home in Powell. She moved to Lovell in 2002.
Survivors include her son, Ron Ferguson of Lovell and his wife Marsha; five
grandchildren, Jessica Whitacre of Broken Arrow, Okla., Clinton Scott Ferguson
of Aurora, Colo., Chris Ferguson of Lakewood, Colo., Rhonda Gatch of Lovell
and Marlon Ferguson of Platte, S.D.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell; her parents and her brothers.
She was known for her love of playing the piano. She also loved to travel and
was an avid reader.
Services were Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Ore City, Texas, United Methodist Church.
She was buried next to her husband, Haskell.
Frankie Lilly-Smith - December 7, 2005
A service for Frankie Belinda Lilly-Smith, 48, of Powell, who died in Billings,
Mont., on Wednesday, Dec. 7, will be Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. at the First
Southern Baptist Church in Powell.
She was born March 23, 1957, in Riverside, Calif., to Porter and Charlie (Johnson)
Lilly. She attended Valley High School and Saddleback College in Orange County,
Calif.
She married Robert Smith on Feb. 14, 1979 in Las Vegas, Nev. She was a former
member of First Baptist Church of Glenn Valley, Calif.
Frankie had a great voice and recently won a competition singing Karaoke. She
also enjoyed craft shows.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Robert Smith; two daughters, Charlene
and Kameka; one son, Robert; her parents; three brothers, Porter Lilly, Jr.,
Mark Lilly, and Cornelius Lilly; and two sisters, Nina Lilly and Tracey Lilly.
Services for Frankie Lilly-Smith were held in Riverside, Calif.
Jeffrey Allen Fry - December 10, 2005
Jeffrey Allen Fry of Gordon, Neb., formerly of Powell, died Saturday, Dec.
10 near Alliance, Neb., from injuries sustained in a car accident.
He was 22.
He was born Dec. 10, 1983, in Cody to Scott Fry and Melinda Pitsch.
Survivors include his fiancee, Carmon Walton of Gordon, Neb.; his parents,
Scott Fry of Alliance, Neb., and Melinda Pitsch of Ralston; two brothers, Dusty
Fry and Spencer Fry of Alliance, Neb.; grandparents, Bob and Carlene Fry of
Ralston and Curt and Muffy Pitsch of Buffalo; great-grandparents, Helen Lusher
of Buffalo, LeOrea Pitsch of Sheridan and Virginia Erickson of Greeley, Colo.;
several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends; and the Walton
family.
Preceding him in death were great-grandparents Art and Ann Fry, John Lusher,
Alex Pitsch and Carl Erickson.
He loved hunting, fishing, baseball and spending time with the people who cared
about him. He was a hero to his brothers and to everyone who knew him. He will
be missed, but will remain always in the hearts of loved ones.
Services have taken place in Alliance and Gordon. A memorial service will be
scheduled in Powell at a later date.
Robert Louis Schuetz - December 13, 2005
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. at St. Barbara’s
Catholic Church in Powell for Robert Louis Schuetz, 72, who died Tuesday, Dec.
13 at the Powell Hospital.
Father Pete Johnson will officiate at services and burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home.
He was born April 18, 1933, in Bridgeport, Nebr., son of Phillip and Virginia
(Nunn) Schuetz. He was raised on a ranch south of Bridgeport and graduated
from Bridgeport High School in 1950.
He married Beverley Jeane Willmott Oct. 25, 1952. His life’s work in
the oil industry started with Ohio Oil Co., which later became Marathon Oil.
He retired from Marathon in May of 1994.
His family meant everything to him, and he was a devoted father and grandfather.
He enjoyed camping, traveling, fine dining, golfing and was an avid walker.
His family will remember him for his quick wit and his love of history, especially
the study of the Lewis & Clark Expedition.
Survivors include his wife Beverley; five children, Lynn M. Belford, Beth A.
(Steve) Schlenker, Robert L. Schuetz II, Rebecca J. (Karl) Schulz and Molly
K. (Scott) Lynn; his father-in-law, Robert Willmott; two brothers, Phillip
(Helen) Schuetz of Buena Park, Calif., and Joel (Pam) Schuetz of Cheyenne;
seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Donald.
Pallbearers at the funeral will be Aaron Lotten, Joshua Belford, Jared Belford,
Devin Lynn, Donny Garrison and Michael Stearns.

Gail Frey, 80, died Wednesday, Dec. 14 in a Billings, Mont., hospital.
The long-time resident of Bozeman, Mont., was transferred to Billings from
Powell, where he had lived at Powell Valley Care Center since moving from
Bozeman in May of 2003.
He was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Malta, Mont., son of Charles H. Frey and Lola
(Anderson) Frey. A laborer in his working life, he was a veteran of the U.S.
Navy.
Survivors include a sister, Joyce Stewart (Jim) of Powell; nieces Charolette
McCue (Mike) of Cody, Sheila Wilson (Barry) of Kent, Wash., and Sharon Ball
of Cody; and a nephew, Jim Stewart Jr. of Powell.
Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned.
Matthew B. Van Petten - December 16, 2005
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Dec. 19 in Powell for Matthew B. Van
Petten, 85, long-time oilfield services provider in the Powell area, who died
Friday, Dec. 16 at a Sheridan nursing home.
The Rev. Susan Adams-Trembath officiated at services at First United Methodist
Church Monday morning. Burial was in Thermopolis at Monument Hill Cemetery
at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
He was born Aug. 15, 1920, at Buffalo, son of Matthew B. Van Petten and Helena
R. (Sayles) Van Petten. After high school graduation, he served in the U.S.
Air Force.
He married Loyce L. Loughlin on May 20, 1945. He was a member of the Methodist
Church and the Elks Club. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the friendships
of many years on the golf course.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Van Petten of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Frances
Cook of Casper; a son-in-law, George E. Gillett of Cody; a sister-in-law, Marilyn
Van Petten of Amarillo, Texas; a brother-in-law, Edward Drazick of Casper;
two grandchildren, Stephanie (Jim) Eisenhauer of Sheridan and Teresa (Tim)
Howard of Minot, N.D.; and three great-grandchildren, Megand Matthew Eisenhauer
and Riley Howard.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loyce; a daughter, Norma Gillett; his
parents; a brother, Edward Van Petten; a sister, Helen Drazick; and a brother-in-law,
Victor Cook.
Pallbearers at the funeral were Fred Whitmore, Richard Holdsworth, Brandon
Crichton, George Gillett, Don Davidson and Jim Holdsworth.

Mark Irion - December 16, 2005
Dr. Mark Irion, 50, of Miles City, Mont., died Friday, Dec. 16 as a result
of an airplane crash.
He was born in Miles City on Aug. 9, 1955, the son of James Edward and Doris
M. (Carter) Irion. He attended schools in Deaver, where he graduated from
high school. He married Mary Elizabeth Eckhardt on Aug. 14, 1976 in Cody.
Mark attended the University of Wyoming where he graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor’s
degree in Agricultural Engineering and in 1980 with a Master’s degree
in Mechanical Engineering. Following his schooling, he went to work for
Sperry Aerospace in Phoenix, Ariz., where he worked until 1985. Then he was
accepted into medical school at the University of Arizona Medical Center in
Tucson, Ariz. He graduated in 1989. He served his residency in Youngstown,
Ohio and Cleveland, Ohio. In 1993, Mark accepted the radiology position
at Holy Rosary Healthcare where he has served Eastern Montana until the time
of his death.
Mark was a member of the First Lutheran Church and Miles City Hanger Club. He
was a Montana Medical Association representative for Southeastern Montana. He
enjoyed motorcycles, skiing, cars, woodworking, and flying. Mark was always
on the leading edge of technology in the medical field. He was proud of
being in the Air Force Reserves where he had the rank of Captain.
Survivors inlude his wife, Mary Elizabeth Irion of Miles City; a son, Tyson
Irion of Miles City; his parents, Ed and Doris Irion of Billings, Mont; a sister,
Carrie Reichert and her husband Tim of Billings; a brother, Dennis Irion and
his wife Charlene of Billings; his grandmother, Margaret Carter of Miles City;
and several nieces and nephews.
A Christmas Celebration of Mark’s life will be held on Thursday, Dec
22 at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Miles City with a reception to
follow at the Holy Rosary Healthcare. The family is requesting that everyone
is to be dressed in Christmas attire and wearing bells is encouraged.

Ruth Haines Gryder - December 17, 2005
Former Powell resident Ruth Haines Gryder died Dec. 17, 2005, in Jefferson,
Wis.
She was 78.
She was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was first married to John
Cronk of West Orange, N.J., in 1946, and her second marriage was to W.D. “Dub” Gryder
of Dublin, Texas, in 1953. Dub preceded her in death in 1970, and John in 2005.
Katy Hinckley - December 19, 2005
Funeral services for Katy Hinckley will be held at the Laramie LDS Church
at 12 noon on Friday, Dec. 23. She died peacefully at her Laramie home in the
early morning of Monday, Dec. 19.
Katy’s wonderful, upbeat attitude, her determination and her enthusiasm
for life were hallmarks of her personality to the end, even through her four
and one half years battling ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). She was
an inspiration to all who knew her.
She was proud to be a Hinckley and cherished time spent with her six siblings
and their families and her extended step-family. Her two boys, Chris
Johnson (U.S. Army) and Brian Johnson (U.S. Marine Corps), were the light of
her life.
Katy was born in Powell on Nov. 18, 1955, and attended Powell schools through
high school graduation and one year at Northwest College. Returning to
college after starting a family, she earned a B.A. in Journalism (with Phi
Beta Kappa honors) and an M.A. in Communications from the University of Wyoming.
During her time as graphics arts manager and then Director of Marketing and
Creative Design at the Cheyenne Tribune-Eagle, Katy’s talent for art
and design won awards from the Wyoming Press Association, the Mountain Ad Managers
and an International Award in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1999 she accepted
a position as instructor in the Communications department at UW, teaching public
speaking and advertising, and developing and managing the communications lab.
She was diagnosed with ALS in January of 2002, but continued teaching as long
as her health permitted. In spite of her illness, she continued painting and
donating graphic design to community projects. Her painting, “Have
Wheels Will Travel” - the Harley-Davidson on which she and her husband
continued to tour the West with her portable wheelchair strapped on the back – won
a spot in the permanent display at the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA)
art museum in Tucson, Ariz., and was included in the 2005 MDA calendar.
Katy also was featured on the 2004 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon for her art work
and her spirit in the face of her difficulties, and was recognized with a 2004
Personal Achievement Award by the MDA.
She is survived by her husband, Pete Hegg of Laramie; her mother, Ann Hinckley
of Powell; three sisters, Martha Moewes of Powell, Molly Kinsey and Morgan
Cromer, both of Sheridan; three brothers, Jack of Kennewick, Wash., Bern of
Laramie, and Danny of San Leandro, Calif.; and by many loving nieces, nephews, and
cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, John T. Hinckley.

Josie Hernandez Moreno - December 19, 2005
Josie Hernandez Moreno, 75 of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died Monday, Dec. 19 at
Eastern Idaho Falls Regional Medical Center.
She was born May 5, 1930, to Jesus and Victoria Hernandez in Powell.
She grew up in Powell and graduated from Powell High School. In 1946, She married
George L. Riddle Sr. They were later divorced.
Josie attended the University of Wyoming at Laramie and received her Associates
Degree in Nursing, later receiving her Register Nurses License in Idaho. She
moved to Idaho Falls around 1969 to begin her career in Nursing. She later
married Salvador Moreno, who preceded her in death.
Josie was a devout Catholic and a member of Christ the King Church in Idaho
Falls. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Her interests always
resided in the care and wellbeing of her family and those around her.
Survivors include her sons George L( Miki) Riddle Jr. of Hardin, Mont. and
Albert (Jackie) Riddle of Idaho Falls; her daughter, Margaret Johnson of Anchorage,
Alas.; her mother, Victoria Hernandez of Powell; her brothers, Jesse (Manuella)
Hernandez of Powell and Victor Abarca of Idaho Falls; her sisters, Louise Hernandez
of Idaho Falls, Mary Hernandez of Powell, Connie Hernandez of Dubois, Idaho;
10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband
Salvador, she was preceded in death by her father, Jesus Hernandez, Ssisters
Ramona, Mary Jesse and Christine and brother Refugio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday,
Dec. 22 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 145 9th Street in Idaho Falls, with
Father Caleb Vogel, celebrant.
Mark D. Robertson - December 20, 2005
Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 23 at 2 p.m. in the Cody LDS Stake Center
for Mark D. Robertson of Cody, who died Tuesday, Dec. 20 of cancer. He was
85.
Burial will follow in the Cody Cemetery with military honors.
He was born Oct. 21, 1920, in Lovell to Bryant B. and Amelia Harris Robertson.
He attended Lovell schools from which he graduated. In April of 1938, he was
proclaimed FFA Farmer of the Year.
He served in the Cavalry a short time before he attnded the University of Wyoming
and Brigham Young University. He served in World War II, after which he moved
back to Lovell and became a farmer.
Mark married Beverly Jameson Aug. 18, 1948, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They
became the parents of five boys: Reed, Brian, Dane, Kevin and Eric Robertson.
Mark continued serving his country in 1942 and served in every branch of the
service before his discharge in 1963. Upon his return, he served on the Lovell
City Council for several years.
The Robertson family moved to Cody where Mark sold insurance for a short time
before he started his career in the hay cubing business. He loved serving his
family and his church.
He also served on the Northwest College board, and after 16 years as a trustee,
he and his wife left Cody on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints to Philadelphia, Pa. They served another mission to Brooklyn, N.Y. where
they opened a genealogy research library. Upon returning, Mark continued serving
as Patriarch for his church for 32 years in which capacity he gave 1,411 blessings
to young men and women.
He loved fishing and spending time with his 31 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Beverly; sons Reed (Jacque), Brian (Jane), Dane
(Mary Beth), Kevin (Rhonda), Eric (Theresa) and their families; a brother,
Reece Robertson of Salt Lake City; and a sister, Elda Huling of Phoenix, Ariz.

Donald "Red" P. Fisher - December 20, 2005
Memorial funeral services for Donald "Red" P. Fisher of Greybull
will take place Saturday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in
Basin.
He died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, at his home in Greybull. He was 71.
He was born Sept. 12, 1934, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Donald P. and Betty
Fisher. He moved to the Greybull area in 1971.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Special Forces in the Korean and Vietnam
wars. He was honorably discharged from the service after serving his country
with pride and dignity.
He began his working career in Greybull at the Dresser Bentonite Plant, and
then went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring in the mid-1990s.
His hobbies included collecting firearms and weapons, art, antiques and Indian
artifacts. He also loved hot rods and motorcycles, riding in poker runs and
playing pool. He had many friends and helped anyone he had a chance to help.
He lived life to the fullest each day.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Fraternal Order of Eagles
AERIE #3086 and attended several churches in the area, but mainly the First
Baptist Church of Basin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
He is survived by one daughter, Michelle Wilson of Greybull; four step-daughters,
Nancy Sampson of Sheridan, Tammy Barber of Missouri, Gena Plooster of South
Dakota and Denise Bond of Sheridan; two step-sons, Joe Bales of Sheridan and
Everett Bond of Greybull; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his
extended family, Alan Keeler of Sheridan and Dale and Jennifer Jones of Ralston,
whom he considered his children.
Cremation has taken place. Immediately following the services, a reception
for family and friends will take place at the Stockman's Banquet Room in Basin.

Clarence E. Emmett - December 22, 2005
Memorial services will be held at Haskell’s Funeral Home in Lovell Saturday,
Dec. 31 at 1 p.m. for Clarence E. Emmett, who died peacefully at his Deaver
home Thursday, Dec. 22. He was 81.
He was born May 22, 1914, in Deaver. He was married for 30 years to Helen Burgener
of Powell and raised five children.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged a Seaman
First Class after service in World War II. After the war, he farmed, then worked
in construction which took him to jobs across the United States.
Clarence retired to do what he loved most, raise sheep outside Deaver.
He loved to read, work crossword puzzles, visit with friends and eat See’s
Candy. The family will dearly miss him, but is comforted in the knowledge that
he will be helping to shepherd the sheep once again.
Survivors include his son, Nathan; daughters Brenda Emmett (Kim), Jennifer
Just (Jack), Patricia Emmett and Cheryl Rouse (Scott); five grandchildren and
one great-grandchild; sister Betty Todd (Terry); and brothers Charles Emmett
(Lois) and Jerry Emmett (Eve).

Frances Lucille Roderick - December 23, 2005
Frances Lucille Roderick of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Powell, died Dec. 23,
2005.
She was 82.
She was born April 26, 1923, at Lindon, Colo., to Guy and Ida Richards Porter.
She attended Barnes Business College in 1941, and married Don Roderick on July
8, 1942, while he was a B-17 pilot.
The couple lived in Oklahoma and Texas while he was in the service. After World
War II, they moved to Chicago, where he was a pilot for United Airlines. They
moved back to Colorado where they farmed until drawing a homestead on Heart
Mountain near Powell. They farmed there until retiring in 1980. After that,
they spent winters in Arizona and summers in Wyoming until becoming full-time
residents of Arizona in 1998.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; sister, Margaret Giancola; brother,
Tom Porter; and son-in-law, Russ Wiedekamp.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Wiedekamp and Becky Rinne, and son-in-law
Paul Rinne of Arizona; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Jan Roderick of California;
seven grandchildren, Steve (Debi) Wiedekamp, Wendy Wiedekamp, Chris Roderick,
Mike Roderick, Adam Rinne, Colin Rinne and Julie Rinne; and two great-grandchildren,
Lucas and Grace Wiedekamp.
A private service has taken place.

Shirley L. Schultz - December 26, 2005
Shirley L. Schultz Former Powell resident Shirley Schultz died Dec. 26, 2005, after celebrating Christmas with her family in Yuma, Ariz. She was 85. Shirley Louella Graham was born May 29, 1920, in Longmont, Colo., the youngest of six children. She moved to Wyoming where she met and married drilling contractor John Lohrenz of Powell. She often said this was the happiest time of her life, raising her family and enjoying being part of the large Lohrenz family. She and John enjoyed many good times together. After JohnÕs early death in 1968, she moved to Moab, Utah, where she operated a dress shop with her sister, Dorothy Gross. She was active in the Lutheran Church in Moab and there met the pastor, the Rev. Dale Schultz. When he was widowed in 1970, he and Shirley were married in 1973 in Cortez, Colo., where they lived until 1978. They were married for 33 years, moving often to found several new Lutheran congregations. They retired to Emerald Springs retirement facility in Yuma, Ariz., in 2002 and were members of Calvary Lutheran church there. She was an avid dominoes player and enjoyed the social activities of her new home. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Dale E. Schultz of Yuma, Ariz.; daughters Judy Lind of Anchorage, Alaska, Jana Lohrenz of Yuma, Ariz., Kay Christopherson of Shoshone, Jean Stevens of Salt Lake City, Utah, stepdaughters Neoma Schultz and Gail Schultz of Hayward, Calif., Carol Schultz of Columbia, Mo., and stepson David Schultz of Melbourne, Australia, and her sister Mary Ann Clark of Fruita, Colo., and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lohrenz; daughter Wilma Heiserman-Robinson and four siblings. She is being buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell.
Frank R. Thiel - December 27, 2005
Frank R. Thiel Frank R. Thiel, 70, of Glenwood, Minn., died Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Cancer Home in St. Paul, Minn., surrounded by family and friends. He was born Nov. 4, 1935, in Worland to Fred and Molly (Piel) Thiel. He grew up and spent many years in Worland and was honorably discharged from the Air Force in January 1957, after serving four years. After living the majority of his life in Wyoming, Frank moved to Portland, Ore., and then later to Glenwood, Minn., to be closer to his children. Frank (aka Chester), was always eager to help, and his love, generosity and patience will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother Wayne. He is survived by his daughters, Rachael (Trevor) Thomas, of South St. Paul, Minn., and Kathie (Scott) McKay of Hawley, Minn; and sons, Frank (Denise) Schweighart of Cumby, Texas, and Fred Schweighart of Cherry Valley, Ark. He was also blessed with many grandchildren Ñ Melissa and Zachary McKay and Abigail, Timothy, Daniel, Micah and Asher Thomas, who enjoyed the company of their grandpa very much. Imogene J. Hanson - December 28, 2005
Imogene J. Hanson of Cody died Wednesday, Dec. 28 at West Park Hospital in
Cody.
She was born Nov. 10, 1925, to Howard and Margaret Bundy in Gillette. She attended
grade school at the Bundy rural school outside of Gillette and graduated from
Campbell County High School in Gillette. She attended nurses training at St.
John’s McNamara School of Nursing in Rapid City, S.D. She graduated and
passed her boards to become a Registered Nurse in 1945.
On June 30, 1946, she married Milford F. Hanson. They had two sons, Milford
Jr. (Butch) and Michael.
Imogene spent the next 44 years practicing nursing in numerous capacities in
various locations. She served as a nurse in Cody, Lovell, Gillette, Moorcroft
and Newcastle in Wyoming, in Deadwood and Spearfish in South Dakota and in
Pasco, Wash. Her positions included assistant director of nursing and in-service
director. In the in-service director position, she received specialized training
in the operation and interpretation of results from the EKG machine.
She went on to train other hospital physicians and nurses on the use of the
machine as part of a greater effort to establish an intensive care unit at
the hospital. Toward the end of her career, she served as a consultant to area
medical facilities and eventually worked on the Lovell Hospital nursing home
project. She participated in this project from writing certificates of need
and grant applications through the operations phase, eventually becoming the
director of nursing.
She spent many days and miles enjoying the outdoors with her husband and friends
and family, traveling and artifact hunting. Milford and Imogene’s archeological
interest led them to become involved with the Wyoming Archeological Society
and the University of Wyoming. Their greatest discovery was the Hanson Folsom
site, a 10,700-year-old site located near the base of the Big Horn Mountains.
The Hanson site is the largest known Folsom site in the world.
In addition to her archeological interests, Imogene was a member of Eastern
Star, and in the last couple of years, an enthusiastic member and participant
in the Cody Square Dance Club, Kut ‘n Capers. Throughout the years she
enjoyed bowling and playing cards.
In their retirement years, the Hansons enjoyed their snowbird retreat to Scottsdale,
Ariz., where they enjoyed meeting other snowbirds from around the country.
Survivors include her sons, Milford Jr. “Butch” Hanson (Jo) of
Powell and Michael (Becky) Hanson of Cody; grandchildren Brad (Dayna) Hanson
of Buckley, Wash., Daren Hanson of Powell, Casey (Bridgit) Hanson of Billings,
Mont., Wesley (Kylie) Hanson of Cody, Katie May of Casper, Bear May of Powell,
Shad May of Casper and Julie (Cory) Baker of Powell; great-grandsons Austin
and Alex Hanson of Buckley, Wash.; and great-granddaughters K’Lee Ann
and Lance Baker of Powell; sisters Dorothy Smith of Albuquerque, N.M., Carol
Lee Sigrist of Newport News, Va., and Mildred Huravitch of Gillete; and a brother,
Walter Bundy of Gillette.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milford; and her parents.
Cremation and services have taken place. For those who wish, the family would

June Marie McGary Unterzuber - December 29, 2005
June Marie McGary Unterzuber died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at the Powell Valley
Care Center in Powell.
She was 85.
She was born June 6, 1920, in Meeteetse to Robert and Ruth (Stanley) Fenton,
and attended schools in Meeteetse and Cody.
She married Wayne McGary on Oct. 19, 1936. To this union were born five children.
After Wayne died in November 1965, she married William Unterzuber of Greybull
in 1970.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she was one of the founders
of St. John's Thrift Shop. She clerked at the C.R. Anthony store in Powell
for many years and then at High Country Fashions in Powell. She was also the "Pepsi
Sample Lady" for many years in the Powell-Cody area.
She was a member of the Powell Eagle's Lodge and the Kitchen Capers Band.
She loved her family, music and dancing. She passed on the love of harmonica
and guitar playing to her grandson, Travis. She also had a poet's heart, writing
many poems for family and friends. While her eyesight allowed, she spent many
hours knitting and crocheting. She had a giving heart and took great joy in
helping others.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Wayne McGary and Bill Unterzuber; her
parents; three brothers, Robert (Buster) Fenton, John (Little Jack) Fenton
and Walter James Fenton; two sisters, Ruth (Millie) Johnson and Ruby Boyles;
and one half-sister, Betty Jean Alvord.
She is survived by three sons, Vernon (Joy) McGary of Pascagoula, Miss., Gary
(LiLi) McGary of Powell and Kevin (Julie) McGary of Prescott, Wis.; two daughters,
Judy (Doug) Loyning and Vicki (Ray) Tollman, both of Powell; three sisters,
Lila Sperry of Cody, and Mary Louise Cathcart and Eva Lee Munoz, both of California.
Memorial services took place Sunday, Jan. 1 at The Commons in Powell, with
Pastor Kay Allen of the Light of Christ Church officiating.

Linda Joyce Nielsen Lemons - December 28, 2005
Services for Linda Joyce Nielsen Lemons of Laramie, 50, formerly of Powell,
who died Dec. 28, 2005, will take place Thursday, Jan. 5, at The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Laramie.
She died after being diagnosed with Frontotemporal dementia.
She was born June 26, 1955, in Lander, the second child of Kenneth Orson Nielsen
and Pauline Joyce Nielsen. She graduated from Lander Valley High School in
1973 and attended Sheridan College, where she earned her degree in dental hygiene.
She married Roger R. Lemons on July 15, 1975 in the Ogden, Utah, LDS temple.
The couple resided in Logan, Utah, and Worland before moving to Powell in 1982,
where she worked for Drs. Kenneth and Cordelia Hoffmann. They moved to Mesa,
Ariz., in the spring of 1996, where she worked for Drs. Fredrick Turley and
Stephen Driggs. She moved to Laramie in March of 2003, to be closer to her
mother.
She had many talents, including playing piano and canning. She was very crafty
and loved to counter-cross stitch. She grew a garden when possible and helped
her boys raise and take care of animals. She loved animals herself and raised
several pet Shih Tsu's.
She was very family-oriented, and loved spending time with her boys, reading
to them, helping them become Eagle Scouts and watching and supporting them
as they played sports. She was a good cook, known especially for her Christmas
Eve snacks and program. She worked hard making her home a place of love and
peace.
A caring and compassionate individual, she spent many hours giving service
to others, whether it was helping neighbors in need or cleaning nursing home
patients' teeth. She was a good listener, friend and daughter.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She served as Relief Society president, Primary president and nursery leader.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her mother, Joyce Nielsen of Laramie; two sons, Ty R. (Corinne)
Lemons of Queen Creek, Ariz., and Coy N. (Sami) Lemons of Apache Junction,
Ariz.; one grandson, Chase Hunter Rae Lemons of Queen Creek, Ariz.; one brother,
Gary K. (Christal) Nielsen of Gilbert, Ariz.; two sisters, Debra L. (Gary)
Anderson of Riverton and Connie (Carlos) Bassett of Laramie; and many nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints on Hayford Avenue in Laramie. A public viewing is scheduled in the church
from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to services. Burial will take place Friday, Jan.
6, at noon in the Riverview Cemetery in Worland.
Services are under the direction of Rocky Mountain Funeral Home in Laramie.

Angelina Davila of Cody died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at West Park Hospital
in Cody.
She was 75.
A memorial Mass will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday (today) at St. Anthony's
Catholic Church in Cody. Interment of cremains will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
