Panthers look to rack up personal bests, earn high seeds

Powell Panthers yet to qualify have two more days to prove they belong at the state track meet.

The Powell High School track and field team competes at the regional meet in Lander Friday and Saturday, giving athletes a shot at extending their season by another week.

Del Nose named Big Sky Coach of the Year  

The Northwest College men’s rodeo team wrapped up the 2014 spring season with a second-place finish in the Big Sky Region and a berth at the College National Finals Rodeo.

Panthers finish 6-6, earn automatic bid to state  

A 1-0 victory over Worland Thursday evening was enough to clinch a postseason berth for the Powell High School boys’ soccer team.

The Panthers (6-6, 3-1 Northwest) won their quadrant and earned an automatic bid to the state tournament, both firsts for the PHS program, with the home finale victory.

PHS girls’ soccer to play Torrington for state bid 

A 6-10 record and a last-place finish in the Northwest Quadrant haven’t eliminated the Powell Panthers girls’ soccer team from postseason play.

The Panthers can still qualify for the state tournament by beating Torrington (8-5, second in the Southeast) Saturday in Lander in a win-or-go-home game.

PHS track heads to regionals in Lander  

Senior Garrett Lynch took advantage of relatively calm skies to notch a personal-best and school-record discus throw of 179 feet, 7 inches Friday afternoon in Cody.

It’s not an audio recording of appalling racist remarks. It’s not the painfully cartoonish logo that openly mocks an entire race of people. At first (and probably second and third) glance, it’s not even all that offensive.

It’s quiet and subtle, and easy to dismiss.

And that’s why exactly we need to talk about it.

The Powell Aquatic Center’s leisure pool is scheduled to reopen Saturday after a two-week closure due to a broken boiler.

Admission will be free Saturday to celebrate the PAC’s four-year anniversary.

Records fall for PMS track

JuliaKay O’Neill broke two records, including one of her own, as the Powell Middle School track team competed in Burlington Saturday.

The eighth-grader bested her own time in the 1600-meter run by more than 11 seconds and out-jumped a long jump record that was twice as old as she is. O’Neill also won the 800-meter run and was part of the first-place 4x100-meter relay team.

The Powell High School track and field team stood tall despite being stretched thin as the squad was split during three meets in two days.

Four Panthers placed first at the Wyoming Track Classic at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper on Friday.

Boys snap 4-game slide

Panthers can clinch Northwest title Thursday  

If the pattern continues, the Powell High School boys’ soccer team will finish the regular season with four straight wins.

A 5-2 win over Pinedale Saturday ended a four-game losing skid that followed the Panthers’ season-opening four-game win streak.
